Chapter 236 Her Weakness

“No.” Mark shook his head.

Lyla walked over and gazed at Gretel, her eyes filled with agony. Gretel was so happy and conniving in the past yet now, she lay here in silence.

It remained unknown whether she would live or die.

There was a tightness in her chest, and try as Lyla may, she was able to breathe freely.

“Gretel, you must persevere, you must,” Stroking her hair, Lyla uttered.

Mark approached Lyla and placed both hands on her shoulder. “She will get better because we are all waiting for her.”

Lyla nodded.

It did not take long before Hansel came over. “Daddy...” Catching a glimpse of Lyla, he drew close. “Mommy, you’re back?”

“Yes.”

“How was it?”

“Felix promised me.”

Hansel let out a sigh of relief, feeling rather grateful towards Felix.

At least, he did not misjudge the man.

“Daddy, Mommy, you should get some rest. I’ll take care of Gretel,” Hansel said.

“It’s okay. I feel more at peace remaining here,” Lyla replied.

“Daddy hasn’t slept all night. You should take a nap with Daddy and come back later,” Hansel retorted.

Speaking of this, Lyla lifted her gaze to observe Mark which left to the realization that his eyes were red.

She gave it a thought before nodding.

“I’m fine,” Mark remarked.

“Come have something to eat with me and then rest,” Lyla suggested.

With Mark’s eyes lighting up, he bobbed his head. “Stay here and let me know if anything happens,” Mark instructed Hansel.

Hansel gave a nod.

The pair then took off.

……

Mark and Lyla first went to have breakfast before retreating to the room for a rest.

With the couple lying in bed, Lyla rested against Mark’s chest. Although they had not had sleep, they were wide awake at this point.

“Mark.”

“Yes?”

“Yesterday... I chatted with Felix all night.”

“Okay.” Mark nodded.

Lyla lifted her eyes to meet his. “I don’t know if you can understand my relationship with Felix...”

Looking straight at her, Mark interrupted. “I do...” Lyla could tell that he was not just saying it by the serious look in his eyes.

“Although as a man, I get jealous, I trust you so I do understand.” Mark elaborated.

“Really?” Lyla stared at him with bright eyes.

“Do I look like I’m kidding?”

“You would probably charge ahead if it were before.”

“There are boundaries to certain things. I believe in you,” Mark uttered.

Lyla had been underestimating Mark.

She was under the impression that he only valued what he cared about but at this moment right now, Lyla got it in her head that Mark was giving her absolute respect and trust.

Even if it hurt him so, he chose to grin and bear it.

Gazing at him, Lyla leaned in for a kiss.

No words could ever describe feelings. The next second, Mark delved deep into the kiss and turned over to overpower her...

……

Meanwhile, on the other side.

Studying Gretel’s face, Hansel sat by her bed and held her hand. “Gretel, I’m sorry I came late...” His eyes welled up.

It was not that he was unconcerned or unafraid all this while, but he had been trusted in luck, hoping that Gretel was only taken by traffickers. In any case, being a wit that she was, she would have definitely figured out a way to get in touch with them...

It never occurred to him that it would come to this.

He played thousands of probable scenarios in his mind but this was not one included.

Hansel took out a watch and put it around Gretel’s wrist. “Silly, don’t lose it again. Otherwise, I can’t find you.”

He was rarely this stirred up with emotions, not even crying when he tumbled and fell in his younger days. However, his tears could not be stopped now.

Just then, Gretel’s finger moved. Taken aback, Hansel thought that his eyes were deceiving him.

Nevertheless, Gretel’s eyes slowly opened.

Hot with emotions, Hansel stared at her. “Gretel, you’re awake?”

“Are you awake?”

He kept on talking but there was no focus in her eyes as if her mind had wandered elsewhere.

“Gretel, Gretel...” Hansel incessantly called out her name.

Lingo happened to walk in the door to see Hansel worked up. She immediately drew near. “What’s the matter? Did something happen?”

“Gretel, Gretel...” With Hansel fixating on Gretel, Lingo’s eyes followed his gaze. “Gretel, are you awake?”

Gretel’s eyes appeared opened and shut at the same time. Perhaps she was trying her hardest to open them but because of the state of her health, she simply could not.

“Han-Hansel...” Gretel weakly muttered.

“Here, I’m here.”

“Hansel...” Gretel cried again before shutting her eyes and losing consciousness.

“Gretel, Gretel!” Hansel shouted. Lingo made haste out to call the doctor. A doctor quickly rushed in and checked on Gretel. Hansel watched on the sidelines, all distraught.

It took a while before the doctor completed the examination. The doctor turned to them. “She’s back to the previous condition.”

“But she came to just now.”

“That should be because she can hear your voices. I suggest that you keep talking to her. She’d be able to hear everything,” the doctor said.

Hearing this, Hansel turned his attention to Gretel who was in bed and slowly made his way over. “Gretel...”
