Chapter 365 Reluctance And Guilt

Had she not offered herself to him already?

While they poked fun at each other, Jason pushed the door open, entering the room.

“Boss, I received intel.”

Hearing this, Mark turned around and adorned a solemn look on his face. “What’s the progress?”

“Delilah was arrested in place of Caty Davis,” Jason replied.

Mark frowned at the reply.

Why was this woman so silly?

Lyla furrowed her brows as well. “Is it worth her doing so?”

Lingo jumped in. “To her, Caty may have resorted to extreme measures but it was done for Delilah’s sake. It’s unlikely that she had not noticed anything with Caty by her side for so many years. It’s not strange that Delilah did what she did.”

What Lingo said made sense.

“In that case, she’d be ruined forever,” Gretel remarked.

Lingo turned to Gretel and added in a serious tone, “Everyone makes their own choices and considerations. She must have thought it through to do such a thing. Hence, she has to pay the price for her choices. You can also say that if Caty Davis really loves Delilah, she will not sit by and let Delilah be captured.”

Though unable to fully understand Lingo’s words, Gretel nodded.

Lyla watched the scene unfold, feeling gratified. Lingo may have a wild side at times, but she was reliable at handling tasks. Moreover, she had no qualms leaving Hansel and Gretel to Lingo, judging by her attitude toward them.

With that in mind, she curled her lips.

“Boss, do we need to do anything?” Jason inquired.

“Help Delilah hire the best lawyer,” he answered.

Jason nodded his head. “Got it.” He turned and left.

Mark then turned to Lyla. “I owe her one.”

Lyla reflected comprehension. “Delilah is a nice person. She’s only living a tiresome life because she carries everything on her shoulders. You should lend a helping hand be it sentiment or reason.” Lyla gave her two cents with a smile.

Mark gazed at her with eyes that could melt hearts.

Lingo let out a cough. “About that, I’m hungry. Come eat with me.”

“Uh, get Hansel and Piers to go with you. I want to stay here with Mommy,” Gretel replied.

Lingo rolled her eyes at her. “You hadn’t had much to eat the past few days. Don’t you want to go back in training?” Lingo asked.

“Uh, yes I do.”

“Follow me out to eat then,” Lingo retorted.

Gretel, “...”

She took a glance at Mark and Lyla before getting the hint, prompting her to leave the room with Lingo.

“What’s wrong?” Hansel asked.

“I have a sudden realization that I really have eyes at the back of my head,” Gretel said in the bid of self-ridicule.

“With that IQ of yours, it’s hard to toughen you up.”

Hansel, “...”

Gretel, “...”

The twins leaned against the door, trying to peek in. With that, Lingo carried them away.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Hansel inquired.

“Yes, Lingo. What are you up to?”

“What bad habits are you kids picking up? What’s there to look at?”

“I just want to take a look.”

“Come eat with me.”

“Are you really eating?”

“What else if not that?”

Hansel, “...”

He was under the impression that it was an excuse. Who knew it was for real?

...

In the ward.

Mark and Lyla stared into each other’s eyes. Mark’s gaze was scorching.

“Why-why are you looking at me like that for?”

“Don’t you have anything to say to me?” Mark probed.

“What-what’s... the matter?” Lyla retorted with a question, unable to grasp the meaning behind his words.

Mark dangerously narrowed his eyes. “So you still don’t have any intention to tell me?”

“Tell you what...?” Lyla asked.

His hand inched toward Lyla’s belly for a rub. Although his eyes were scary, his hands were gentle. “What do you say? Don’t you owe me an explanation?”

Lyla, “...”

She had forgotten about it.

Literally, she threw it to the back of her mind.

“About that, I...”

“What?”

“It’s not that I’m hiding it from you. It just slipped my mind.”

“Slipped your mind?” Mark raised his brows. “Are you sure?”

“I really forgot about it.”

“What about before?” Mark was not going to let her off easily.

“Before was...” Lyla’s mind was spinning to come up with an excuse.

“What? Haven’t you thought about a reason?”

“It simply slipped my mind...”

“Do you think that this reason is enough to convince me?” Mark stated.

Lyla was intimidated by his presence. “No...”
