Chapter 149 Father and Son's Negotiation

When Mark came out of the room, Lyla was already sound asleep.

Upon seeing her sleeping so soundly, he shook his head helplessly. At this time, he looked at the time, it was already past 12:00 am.

He thought of something, walked downstairs, and saw the light in Hansel’s room was still lit up. He then frowned and walked over.

Mark knocked on the door.

Gretel was startled.

They did not expect that someone would come over at this time.

“Hansel, open the door, it's me!” Mark’s voice sounded outside.

Gretel was dumbfounded.

How could Daddy come over at this time?

She sat in front of the computer anxiously, what should she do if Daddy found out about them?

In a hurry, she immediately turned off the computer and rolled onto Hansel's bed. She covered herself with the blanket, hoping that Mark would not come in.

Mark frowned, and the light in the room was now gone. He frowned again and could not help feeling even more suspicious. He then turned the doorknob only to find that the door was locked.

“Hansel, open the door!” said Mark.

The room was in complete silence, Gretel was inexplicably anxious, but right now, what else could be done?

Mark turned around and went to get the key as there was no sound from the room.

Gretel laid on the bed, held her breath, and did not even dare to gasp loudly. She kept listening to the sound outside, but there was no sound.

Was he gone?

Just as she was thinking about it, she heard the sound of the key. The door was unlocked with a ‘click’ and Mark pushed open the door to walk in.

Gretel really wanted to die at this point.

Mark would usually never come down at night, so why did he suddenly come down today?

Gretel hugged the blanket in distress.

Mark came in, touched the light switch on the wall with his hand directly, and turned it on at once. He frowned and walked towards the figure on the bed.

“Hansel!”

…

No one answered.

“I know you’re not asleep!”

…

There was still no answer.

Mark was not a patient person either, he walked over immediately and pulled the blanket away. However, how could Gretel’s little strength compare to Mark? Her whole being was then exposed in the air.

Upon seeing Mark, Gretel waved at him, smiling happily. “Daddy, night!”

Mark had an indescribable expression on his face. “Why is it you?”

“It's me!”

“Where’s your brother?”

“Brother…” Gretel started thinking quickly in her mind. “He…”

“Say it!”

“Brother is out!”

“Where did he go?”

“I don't know!” Gretel shook her head. Even though she could tell that Mark was a little unhappy, she could not say it. Hansel should be the one to talk about this matter.

Mark's expression became gloomy. He already knew that something was wrong with them that day. Sure enough, Hansel was hiding something from him.

“You don't know about this? How could you possibly not know about this?” Mark did not believe her at all, putting aside the fact that they were acting suspiciously and were close to each other. Just the fact that Gretel was there that night meant that there was no way she did not know about it.

“Uh, I think I heard my brother say that someone asked him to help check their computer, so he went out!”

“Check their computer at midnight?” Mark asked as he looked at her. Did she think that he was a 3-year-old?

“I’m not sure about this, but it seems like that there’s something very important, so he left!”

“Didn’t you say you don't know about it?”

“... Uh, I just remembered it!” Gretel said with a wry smile.

Mark stared at her. This daughter was like Lyla, she could lie without even blinking. He walked over step by step and looked at Gretel who was sitting on the bed. His deep eyes looking at her as if he wanted to see her through. “Gretel, are you hiding something from me?”

“What? What can I hide?” Gretel asked as she blinked at Mark innocently. She was trying to use her act to its fullest.

“Both of you were acting mysteriously from the start, did you really think that I couldn’t tell?” Mark said seriously as he looked at her. He completely ignored Gretel’s act of innocence. He had only been in contact with them for a short time, so even though he did not completely understand his daughter, he could say that he knew her well for the most part.

“Daddy, aren’t you just overthinking it?” Gretel asked, still blinking her pair of clear eyes, trying to pretend to be innocent until the end.

Gretel was no better than Hansel to deal with. It could even be said that she was more cunning than Hansel, she would not be easily persuaded by reason nor force.

After staring at her for a long time, Mark was very sure that he could not get anything out of her. Gretel was not planning to tell him about it at all.

Although he knew that the siblings were acting strange, he did not know what was going on.

Mark pressed his lips together and nodded. “Ok, if you don't want to tell me, then I won't force you!” After speaking, Mark stood up and left.

“Daddy, where are you going?” Gretel asked.

Mark turned around and smiled mysteriously at her. “Take a guess!” He left her with these three words, turned away, and went out.

Gretel, “...”

Mark gave Gretel a taste of her own medicine.
