Chapter 154 It Is A Waste That You Are Not An Actor

Lyla smiled at the little girl and said, “Come here.”

The smile somehow felt ominous to Gretel. “Mommy, can I not…”

“What do you think?” Lyla asked.

The answer was obvious. Gretel showed a pitiful glance at Hansel before she reluctantly walked over.

She quickly showed a bright smile on her face. “Mommy, what is it?”

“Did you know about your brother and his stuff?” Lyla asked.

“I…” Gretel sounded hesitant. “A little…”

“A little?”

“A little more than a little!” Gretel said with an awkward smile.

Lyla’s smile remained as she looked at her daughter but the smile felt cold and scary. It had seeped into Gretel’s heart, terrorizing her.

She knew what her daughter was like.

If Gretel said a little and said it in such a calm tone, she must have known it for a long time and accepted it.

Gretel was scared when she met Lyla’s gaze. She might not be afraid of Lyla because she usually listened to her brother, but not when Lyla was truly angry. Once Lyla got angry, not even her brother could save her from her mother’s wrath.

“Mommy, it’s not my fault! Brother told me to keep a secret!”

The quick-witted Gretel quickly shifted the blame to Hansel.

Hansel helplessly scoffed at her. He really could not do anything about this sister of his.

“Is that so?” Lyla asked.

“It is!” Gretel nodded strongly.

“But it seems like you’ve accepted it well enough. It’s a dangerous matter, aren’t you scared?”

“Of course I’m scared!” Gretel nodded, looking all shocked and terrified. “But I didn’t want Mommy to be worried!”

“Then what about last night?” Mark joined the conversation.

Both Lyla and Gretel looked at the man together.

Mark walked over to the couch and sat down beside Lyla. “What were you doing in front of his computer last night?”

Gretel did not expect Mark to join the ‘interrogation’ all of a sudden.

Her beloved daddy was the person that she admired most yet he sounded like he was ready to rat her out in front of Lyla in this critical moment.

“I was… watching a show…” Gretel lied without even flinching.

“Watching a show in the middle of the night?”

“Daddy, haven’t you heard? There’s a popular Korean drama showing right now!” Gretel said. She sounded like she really had watched Korean drama series before.

“Really? What is it like?”

“Uhm Korean oppa? Handsome-simida? Korean culture is taking over the world!”

Mark was left speechless when Gretel really named it.

“Are you sure about that?”

“Of course I’m sure! The Korean guy might not be as handsome as Daddy but it’s more than enough,” said Gretel. She tried her best in diverting the topic and made it sound as plausible as possible.

Mark strongly believed that Gretel was wasting her acting talent here, she should be acting in Hollywood.

“Bring your brother’s computer out and let’s have a look at the history.”

Gretel was silenced.

“Daddy, you don’t believe me?” Gretel feigned a devastated look as she asked.

“Yes!” Mark nodded.

Gretel felt like her heart broke, she was hurt by the distrust.

“Daddy!” Gretel pulled his sleeve and started to plead.

“Nothing you say will save you now!”

Lyla knew that based on the father and daughter interaction, Mark must have known something that she did not.

She frowned and asked, “What is going on?”

Mark looked at Lyla and then Gretel, he said seriously, “Are you working for Hansel?”

Both Lyla and Gretel were speechless.

Gretel did not answer immediately but the look on Lyla’s face was as bad as it could get.

Working for Hansel? Was that a joke?

Hansel was a boy and she could turn a blind eye at such things, but Gretel? A girl?

Lyla looked at Gretel and asked, “Is it true?”

“Mommy! No!”

“You have to know that us finding out and you telling the truth are different things,” said Mark. His handsome face had an indescribable stern look to it at the moment, he looked like a responsible father to his children.

It was the first time Mark spoke to Gretel using his identity as a father.

Gretel was silenced. All the lies that she prepared were stuck at her throat. She looked at her parents with hesitation.

“Daddy, Mommy…” Gretel tried to talk her way out of it but her parents looked at her seriously, denying her attempt to plead for mercy.

Gretel then sighed and said, “Okay fine, I’m helping Hansel…”

Lyla looked rather shaken. “What did you say? You are really helping him with the gang stuff?”

Gretel nodded.

“Do you have any idea what your brother is doing?”

“Of course I do!”

“Then why are you helping him?!”
