Chapter 156 Causing Troubles Again

Lyla shrugged helplessly. “I don’t remember saying yes!”

Emmy looked at Lily before she said, “Do you have Mark’s number?”

“Actually, I do!”

“Great. Since someone is not buying, I guess we have to call the man to pay for the bill!”

“But he’s our boss!”

“I’ll make the call!”

“OKAY!”

The two of them decided without even consulting Lyla.

Lyla looked at them and shook her head helplessly. She felt like she was being robbed by robbers reincarnated.

“Okay, okay, okay! I’ll pay! I’ll pay!” Lyla was forced to compromise.

She strongly believed if she refused to pay, Emmy and Lily would certainly call Mark over.

Emmy and Lily gave each other a high five. “Yeah!”

Lyla was helpless with her friends.

Soon enough, the waiter served the food.

Since the two of them made a ton of orders and Lyla was paying, she would be stupid if she refused to eat, it would be like wasting her own money.

The trio chatted over the meal and praised how good the food tasted.

While the three of them were enjoying themselves, Mark called.

Lyla frowned when she saw the caller ID. She literally just told her friends that she had nothing to do with the guy and yet he called. Should she answer the call? How should she explain herself later?

A quick thought later, Lyla decided to reject the call but it attracted Emmy and Lily’s attention. “Who is it?”

They were able to catch a glimpse of the caller ID: Mark Badinson.

Lyla must be drunk to register Mark’s name as such in her phone.

“Is this… Mr. Pattison?” Lily asked.

Lyla quickly kept her phone away. “Uh I don’t know.”

Lily grinned at Lyla’s nervous reaction. “I knew it, it’s Mr. Pattison. I thought you said you had nothing to do with him?”

“There’s nothing between us!”

“Then why didn’t you answer the phone?”

“Yeah, what makes ‘Badinson’ so bad that you don’t want to answer his phone? Did he embarrass you?” Lily ridiculed.

It was at that moment Lyla regretted her decision of changing Mark’s name as such.

“Are you guys done? If you are, I’ll get the bill, and let’s get going,” Lyla said.

She was obviously trying to escape the guilt.

Fortunately, Emmy and Lily spared her since she refused to talk. They said together, “Of course! Eat!”

Mark called Lyla repeatedly but she rejected all the calls. She planned to call him after she got home.

After the meal, the three of them ordered desserts. They had a satisfying meal and rested well enough before leaving the coffee shop.

“What are we going to do next?” Lily asked. It seemed like she was weariless when it came to having fun.

“Of course we are gonna…”

It was then a conversation caught their attention.

“Do you know how many customers you’ve scared away in the past month? I can’t afford to employ you here! Just go!”

“I know I’ve made mistakes, I’ll change! I only have this job now, please give me another chance! I’ll do better!”

“We can afford to keep you here, just go to another place!”

“Please, just one more chance.”

“Just get going! You are getting annoying!”

“But!”

“GO!”

Lyla was stunned when she heard the conversation. She stopped and saw the person in front of her looking all disappointed; it was Kathleen.

She looked nothing like the glamorous lady that she used to be, rather a damsel in distress.

Lily frowned. “Why is she here?”

Emmy kept quiet and widened her eyes for a good show.

Then, Kathleen turned around and noticed Lyla. She looked shocked, but a smile quickly replaced it.

“Ms. Lowe, what a coincidence.”

“Yeah, what a coincidence.” Lyla smiled.

“Shopping?”

“Mhmm.” Lyla nodded.

Kathleen smiled. “I see. Okay, I shouldn’t be disturbing you, I should be going.”

“Are you working here?” Lyla asked.

Kathleen looked rather embarrassed when she heard the question. She looked at the restaurant and said, “I used to. Maybe it’s because of my temper, I’ve scared away a lot of customers. I just got fired.”

“Based on your academic background, there should be a ton of companies after you, you shouldn’t be in this kind of place,” Lyla said.

“I know but because of my father, a lot of them are scared of me, they won’t even allow me to get near their company, let alone work!” Kathleen said with a smile. She did not show a hint of anger or grudge when she said that, as though she was reborn into a different person.

Before Lyla could say anything further, Kathleen’s phone rang. She picked it up.

“Hello? Really? Okay, okay, I’ll be right there!” She then happily hung up the phone.

Kathleen looked at them. “I’m going for another interview, I really should be going.”

She smiled at the trio and left in a hurry.

Lily looked like she had seen a ghost after the scene. “Is that the Kathleen Turner that I know? Or is she a twin or some kind of doppelganger?”

“b*tch must have eaten the wrong meds today,” Emmy said as she looked at Lyla.

“I remember I bumped into her when I had dinner with Mark. I saw her on the ground, hurt, so we sent her to the hospital. After that, she’s like a different person,” Lyla said.

Shocked, Emmy looked at her and said, “Lyla, are you out of your mind? Why did you save her? What if you saved her and she bites you in the back?”

“I just can’t leave her there, can I?”
