Chapter 180 Dig A Hole And Bury Herself In It

With the ear being a woman’s sensitive area, Lyla reacted as though she was electrocuted. With the feeling spreading out from her core, she shied away out of fright but Mark refused to release his hold over her. “What’s wrong? Where are you going?”

“No-nowhere.”

Lyla swiftly veered to a side as Mark leaned in. She snapped and spoke through clenched teeth, “Mark Pattinson, enough already.”

Hehe.

Mark was smiling from ear to ear. It gave him a sense of accomplishment like never before to see her lose it.

Lyla had never seen him beam in such a way. The laughter that came from the heart pulled at Lyla’s heartstrings.

“Alright, I’ll quit messing with you. Let’s get some shut-eye.”

Lyla finally nodded. laying still for him to embrace her, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

It was a great sleep tonight.

... ...

Perhaps it was due to the alcohol, but Lyla was out cold.

The next day, it may be because of a light sleep cycle, but she had a feeling that someone was looking at her. She opened her eyes in a daze only to be spooked by a face appearing in close view.

“Hansel, you scared me,” Lyla blurted.

Hansel and Gretel gave them a weird look. “Mommy, are you awake?”

“Yes.”

“About that... It’s really late. The doctor is here for your check-up. Do you want to get up?” Hansel enquired with a hint of awkwardness in his tone.

Lyla frowned at his question. What did he mean?

The doctor was here for a check-up?

Taken aback, she got up. However, Lyla’s face turned flushed when her eyes wandered to the crowd standing at a corner of the room and to Mark who was sleeping soundly beside her.

She wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it.

Lyla extended an arm and covertly pinched Mark, but Mark remained in deep slumber without showing any reaction.

She continued with the pinching.

Mark made a response at last but instead of opening his eyes, he murmured, “Quit it, let’s sleep.” Mark reached out and brought Lyla into his arms before proceeding to catch forty winks.

Lyla was pulled back down but she dared not turn in with the doctor looking straight at them. Sitting up, she smacked Mark. “Wake up, the doctor is here for an examination.”

Still out of it, Mark opened his eyes and turned to Lyla. “What’s the matter?”

“The doctor’s here to examine us,” Lyla said while bracing herself.

With a frown, Mark moved his line of vision to the corner. Indeed there was a room full of people but Mark was unfazed. He shot them a look that implied they were intruding on their couple’s sleep.

“This early?”

“Daddy, it’s not early. It’s half-past nine now.”

Mark took a glance outside the window. As it turned out, the sun was out.

He sat up in bed. “Alright then, begin the examination.”

“Mr. Pattinson, please return to your bed.” The doctor at the front uttered.

The nurses in the back were conversing in hushed tones with delight.

Even though Mark was displeased, he returned to his bed without a word.

With that, the doctor came forth for the check-up before starting with the questions.

On the other side, Lyla took the opportunity to straighten herself out. Nevertheless, she was upset by the look she was getting from the nurses. She knew that she had become the talk of the town in the hospital once again.

After the doctor was done with Mark, he turned to examine Lyla. Following several rounds of questions, the doctor said, “You can be discharged if nothing shows on your medical report today.”

Lyla nodded. “Thank you, Doctor.”

“My pleasure. It is my duty.”

This was a cause for celebration yet Mark’s eyes widened at the news. “What? She can be discharged today?”

“Yes, Ms. Lowe is doing well. She was not severely hurt to begin with. She can leave the hospital should no issue arise from the medical report.”

“No.” Mark ensued with a denial.

Perplexed, Lyla and the doctor stared at him. Even Hansel and Gretel fixated their gaze on him.

What was Daddy trying to get at?

Realizing that he overreacted, Mark cleared his throat. “I mean, it was quite dangerous at the scene of the fire. I don’t think she should be discharged just like that. What if there’s residual effects?”

Hearing this, the doctor perked a professional smile. “Don’t worry about this, Mr. Pattinson. We came to this conclusion through careful examination and verification. Ms. Lowe is doing fine.”

“Are you sure? Have you run every test?” Mark threw another question.

“I’m sure.”

“But...” Mark gave it a thought before speaking. “But she said she was having a headache yesterday. What’s this about?” Mark questioned.

The doctor frowned and turned to Lyla. “Ms. Lowe, did you have a headache yesterday? How do you feel? Where is it hurting? We should run through some tests if that’s the case.”

Others may be in the dark about Mark’s intentions but Lyla was no stranger. She flashed a smile at the doctor. “I accidentally bumped my head. It’s nothing. Thank you, Doctor. I’ll be discharging today if everything is good.”

The doctor finally nodded. “Okay.”

Mark viciously stared daggers at Lyla.

“Mr. Pattinson, take a rest. We should get going.” The doctor withdrew from the room together with the nurses.

Once they were gone, Mark looked towards Lyla. “Are you in a hurry to leave the hospital?”

“Are you unhappy to see me discharged?” Lyla replied with a question.

“No...” Mark answered. “What’s the point of me staying alone in the hospital with you gone?”

Lyla. “...”

As expected, she was right on the money about Mark. His intentions could not be more obvious.
