Chapter 286 The Death Anniversary Is Fast Approaching

“No, nothing you say will change my mind,” Justin said. “The wedding is around the corner and to postpone it now will make a mockery of the Pattinsons. We’ll be the laughing stock of the century.” Justin vigorously protested, refusing to budge.

“But it’s not like we have any other way,” Hansel persuaded.

“What do you mean no other way? It’s all an excuse,” Justin retorted before a realization hit him, prompting him to frown. “That’s not right. Is it because your mommy doesn’t want to get married now?” He enquired.

“Uh, my mommy?” Blinking, Hansel took a glance at Gretel. He was perplexed by this question.

“Is your mommy refusing to tie the knot because she's angry about your daddy’s scandal?” Master Pattison had a mind-blowing epiphany.

“Huh?” Hansel was unable to keep up with the old man’s train of thought.

“Is that so? Humph, It figures, a leopard can’t change its spots. With that sh*tty character of his, he really deserves what’s coming.”

Hansel. “...”

This metaphor...

What a way to talk about one’s son.

“Let me go find him.” The old man wanted to storm out in a huff.

“No, no, it’s nothing like that.” Hansel immediately stopped him. “Grandpa, this has no relation to that.”

“How could it have no relation? Your daddy... This is no time to be out looking for women. Why in the bar anyway? His taste is really getting bad.” Master Pattinson was very upset.

Hansel. “...”

He was at a loss for words by the comment.

Was Justin blaming Daddy for looking for women or just complaining about his bad taste in them?

Regardless, this was not the point!

“Grandpa, it’s really not that. The scandal is a fake. There’s no problem between Daddy and Mommy, and postponing the wedding isn’t due to that.” Hansel stared into the old man’s eyes and explained.

“Then what, if it’s not that? What other reason could there be?” Master Pattinson stuck to his idea.

“Really. I swear, it’s really the truth.” Hansel reaffirmed it to the point of swearing an oath.

Justin finally assumed it was true, albeit he was not quite convinced. “Then tell me, what’s going on?”

At wit’s end, Hansel let the cat out of the bag and told Justin everything.

Having heard the story, Justin remained silent a long time. Nevertheless, he stood his ground and replied from his perspective, “Bu-but the wedding can’t be postponed just for this reason. Isn’t there someone going with him abroad? Moreover, it’s not like your mommy can do anything if she goes.”

Just then, Gretel walked around and answered in a soft voice, “Grandpa, besides Mommy, Felix is someone who has raised me since birth. Even I’m worried for his sake. If possible, I want to go with Felix. This has nothing to do with helping him. We should at least offer him comfort.”

There was nothing more Justin could say.

He could understand the reasoning. However, Justin had a hard time accepting it right there and then.

Growing up, the Pattinsons had never contributed to Hansel and Gretel’s livelihood, let alone met them. They had no right to stop them from lending a hand to someone who helped them.

In the end, Justin sighed. “What can I say? Sigh, whatever. I’m keeping out of this. I will brace myself to be in public even if I’m embarrassed.”

Turning to him, Hansel kneaded his back. “Oh, Grandpa. It’s not like they’re not getting married, it’s merely a delay. There’s nothing embarrassing about it.” In addition, the twins were the ones most hung up about their parents getting married. Nonetheless, Hansel and Gretel had to give it a go with headquarters pressing on them.

“With this postponement, who knows how far back will it be put off?”

“What? You have your grandchildren. What’s the rush?”

“I...”

That was true.

He had grandchildren so what was the rush?

It was not as though he had none.

“Right!” Justin nodded.

“So you were worried about Daddy?” Hansel said while chuckling.

With his inner thoughts revealed, Master Pattison decisively denied. “Tsk, why would I be worried about a person without any conscience?”

“Are you still refusing to admit it?”

“It’s not the truth to begin with anyway.”

“Then why are you more anxious than Daddy?”

“I...” Justin realized that he was lost for words.

“Grandpa, just admit it,” Gretel replied with a smile.

“Tsk.” Master Pattison would never budge.

“So that’s decided for that matter,” Hansel concluded.

“No,” Justin spoke up.

“Why, Grandpa? Are you still unable to wrap your head around it?” Hansel probed.

“It’s not that.” Speaking of this, Justin’s face turned into a grimace.

“Then what?”

“Your mommy can go, but not your daddy.”

“Why?” With a frown, Hansel asked.

Justin let out a sigh. “The anniversary of your nana’s death is around the corner so your daddy can’t go.”

Nana?

Hansel and Gretel were taken aback.

“Is she Daddy’s Mommy?” Gretel enquired.

Justin gave a nod.

Hansel and Gretel exchanged a glance, not knowing what to say.

...

Mark was not home during their return. He must be at the office, mapping out work.

Lyla, on the other hand, was packing up her stuff.

“Mommy.”

“You’re back?”

“Uh huh.”

There was tension in the air.

“What’s wrong? Did something happen? Something bad?” Lyla asked.

Sitting on the sofa, Gretel was without a word.
