Chapter 56 Mad With Envy

Now that he mentioned it, Lyla gave it some serious thought. She really did not dare imagine what would happen.

Lyla then looked at them. “The both of you will behave if you two don’t want to lose me and have a stepmother instead!” Based on Mark Pattinson’s wild temper, there would be nothing left of her when he was done!

In the end, Hansel and Gretel were silent...

They were both rendered speechless.

This was not what they meant!

“Okay, I’ll nap for a bit first. Call me when it’s time to eat!” Lyla said as she left.

“Wait!” Just then, Hansel shouted and immediately walked up to grab her arm. “Mummy, are you hurt?”

Gretel quickly walked over too when she heard and looked over her worriedly. “Mummy, how did you get hurt?”

Erm…

Seeing these two worried faces, Lyla pursed her lips. She had already changed into casual wear to hide it, but she did not expect Hansel’s eagle eyes to notice. “Oh, I accidentally scraped it!”

“Is that true?”

“Of course it is true. It’s just a layer of skin, it’ll be fine after a couple of days!” Lyla said, not wanting them to worry.

Even though Lyla said that, Gretel was still frowning. She was still skeptical because Lyla did not seem like such a clumsy person.

Watching Hansel’s brows knitted together, she asked, “Dear, what are you thinking about?”

“Nothing!”

“Don’t worry, Mummy is an adult. I know how to protect myself, Ok?”

Hansel then only nodded in assurance, hoping that he was only overthinking things.

Just then, he suddenly remembered something and ran to his room. Soon after, he came running back.

There was a bracelet in his hands.

“Mummy put this on!”

“What is this?”

“It is something awesome after all! There’s a button on it. In case anything happens, I’ll get notified if you press this button!”

“It’s that high-tech?”

“I will feel assured as long as you wear it!” Hansel said.

Lyla did not argue. She would do anything to make them feel reassured.

So she put it on. Actually, it looked pretty nice and very refined. If Hansel said nothing, she would have never thought that it was a high-tech gadget.

“Does it work? Why not we test it out?”

Hansel was speechless.

“Gretel and I have one each. So, Mummy, you’d better not press it for no reason!” Hansel said. He knew that these were linked directly to the Divine Seraph Association Internal Centre.

If Lyla were to push that button, he reckoned that Blake and the rest would find him very soon. He did not want to be exposed to this quickly!

“Alright!” Lyla nodded. “But where did you get these from?”

She realized that she rarely micromanaged these two, but they always came up with weird stuff.

For example, this dog. Another example would be this bracelet.

So after she asked this question, Hansel and Gretel were both silent.

Just as Hansel was thinking about how to explain this, Gretel opened her mouth with an “ah”.

Lyla and Hansel’s sights went towards her. “It was a lucky draw prize!”

Lyla and Gretel were both speechless.

Now, it seemed like this was the only explanation for it!

“Are you sure?” Lyla set her eyes on Hansel.

What else could Hansel say? So he could only nod his head reluctantly. “That’s right!”

This excuse was as far-fetched as it could get. Did they really think that Lyla was born yesterday?

However, she did not continue to question and expose them.

If they did not want her to know, then she would not ask.

“I don’t care where you got this, but I’m warning you two. You are not to do anything bad, you hear me?” Lyla said. She raised her children with a free-range parenting style. She believed that Gretel and Hansel were not bad children; they knew their limits and did everything accordingly.

It was just that someday in the future, Lyla would definitely regret not educating them well.

As they listened to Lyla, both Hansel and Gretel nodded in tandem.

“Alright, call me when it’s time to eat!” Lyla said irritatedly.

“Sure!”

Only then did Lyla turn back to return to her room for a nap.

Hansel and Gretel finally breathed out in relief.

....

It was 8 pm.

Kathleen Turner and Mark Pattinson walked out of a restaurant after dinner.

Kathleen Turner looked at him, “Mark, I saw you hurry out of the company this afternoon, where did you go?” Kathleen Turner clung onto Mark Pattinson’s arm acting cute and vulnerable. In fact, she was just asking just for the sake of it. Ever since she had been engaged, she had been in a state of bliss.

Coincidently, her words reminded Mark Pattinson.

He turned to look at Kathleen Turner, looking rather grim. His gaze was so deep that no one could figure out what was in his mind.

After some time, he finally opened up. “Kathleen Turner, why did you let Lyla Lowe sign the contract?” He asked.

Kathleen Turner was stunned. She did not expect him to ask about this. Neither did she think that he would come to know about it.
