Chapter 55 Looks Are Not Attractive Enough

“Director Turner asked me to go out and sign this contract. So I had no choice but to follow!” Lyla said irritatedly.

Mark Pattinson's face went taut, his brows knitted tight together as he glanced at the file in her hand. He snatched it over roughly. Then when he flipped it open, his face looked even worse.

The next moment, before Lyla knew what was going on, Mark Pattinson snapped the folder close and tossed them straight into the back seat.

Lyla was stunned.

What… was the meaning of this?

“Go back and tell Kathleen Turner, you will not do this case!” Mark Pattinson said with his face steely hard.

“Why?” Lyla Lowe asked, not understanding.

“There are no whys or hows. Just do as you are told!” Mark Pattinson's temper was as bad as ever.

Lyla Lowe answered, “... Mr. Pattinson, I am just a designer. Who am I to reject a superior?” Lyla Lowe continued to question.

Oh? Is that so?” When he heard this, Mark Pattinson suddenly turned his head and came closer to her. This zoomed his devilishly charming face in front of her. “Then what about me? Won't it be solved too?”

How did a normal sentence get twisted so far from its original meaning when it came out of Mark Pattinson's mouth?

Lyla Lowe looked at him. Even though she did not even sniff at his good looks, but to a grown woman, how could this not make her blush and her heart race? “Mr. Pattinson, of course, I will never dare to defy you on work-related matters!”

She was rather good at making excuses.

Mark Pattinson let out a cold hum, “If you do not want a repeat of what happened, then listen to me and reject Kathleen Turner!” Mark Pattinson warned.

At this point, Lyla Lowe really wanted to ask if Kathleen Turner was his fiancé. Why would he...

Fine, she would not ask what she should not. Who knew what other new tricks Mark Pattinson had up his sleeve otherwise.

However, even though Mark Pattinson's words did not spell it out clearly, it was enough for Lyla to understand.

She had not even picked on him for the previous incident. She did not expect that this time; he was going to blame it on her again.

Lyla has never been an easy one to deal with. Since he hated her so much, then she did not need to be a sitting duck for him to target again.

Just then, she reached out to take the folders from the back of the car.

“What are you doing?” Mark Pattinson asked.

“Sign the contract!”

“Lyla Lowe, are you deliberately ignoring me?” Mark Pattinson was furious. Why was this woman so stubborn?

But Lyla pretended that she had been wronged, “Mr. Pattinson, Director Turner said that if I do not sign the contract, then I’ll have to leave. I'm just a designer, with no rights to refuse. I don’t want to lose my livelihood for now!” she said.

Darn it!

Why did Mark Pattinson have a feeling she was just pretending that she had been wronged, and all that sob story was fake?

“You tell her that I said so!”

“Wouldn't that make her misunderstand me all the more? The main reason why she dislikes me is all because of you!”

Mark Pattinson's brows furrowed and took the documents straight from her hands. “I'll tell her myself!”

“But…”

“Don't forget, I am your superior!”

Rendered speechless at this, Lyla only nodded. “Okay. I understand!”

However, the corners of her mouth could not stop curling upwards.

This was her goal all along!

Mark Pattinson looked into the rearview mirror; he did not miss that cute little sly grin at the corner of her lips. His brows furrowed as he suddenly understood it. His brows raised as he abruptly moved closer to her, pressing on her soft body with a reprimanding tone and stance, “Darn it, you dare trick me!”

Lyla immediately acted innocent. “Mr. Pattinson, you wound me. How did I trick you?”

“How dare you say otherwise?”

“I was only stating the truth!” Lyla said each word clearly; her eyes were gleaming with glee.

No matter how long he stared, Mark Pattinson still loved that cheeky look. He really wanted to kiss her. He put in great effort to hold himself back.

“Keep that cheek in check, you'll pay for it otherwise!” Mark Pattinson warned.

Actually, he did not mind covering for Lyla concerning these matters. In fact, he liked her showing off her vulnerable side in front of him. This gave him a sense of accomplishment!

A satisfied smile played at the corner of his lips.

Just then, he did not know what his hands were touching, but Lyla let out an "mmm" sound.

He noticed that something was wrong and immediately looked at her. “What's wrong?”

Lyla lifted her arm. Unexpectedly, a layer of skin had been rubbed off and there were some bloodstains on it too. Even though it was not too serious, it was just that Mark Pattinson's heart was bleeding for Lyla's smooth and tender skin.

“Does it hurt?” He asked worriedly.

Seeing his worried look, Lyla Lowe felt an indescribable feeling build up from the bottom of her heart. She shook her head. “It doesn't hurt!”

However, the next second made her hate him to death!

Because Mark Pattinson teasingly pressed on her wound, Lyla sucked in a breath of cold air!

Damn it!

“What are you doing?” Lyla asked, looking at him.

Mark Pattinson spoke. “Letting you feel how I did on my way here. This shouldn’t be more than 1/10 of that...”

Lyla was silent.

…

Mark Pattinson brought her to the hospital to treat her wound.

Actually, it was not a big problem and it should be fine in a couple of days, but Mark Pattinson insisted on bringing her over. Lyla had nothing to say against that!

A whole afternoon had already passed by the time they were done with this round trip. Lyla did not return to the company and Mark Pattinson had sent her straight home.

Since it was not that late yet, Mark Pattinson draped an arm over the steering wheel and looked at Lyla with a content and laid-back look in his eyes. “So? Aren’t you going to invite me in?” He asked.

Lyla was stunned.

This was impossible. At this time, Hansel and Gretel would be back soon too.

Putting Gretel aside for now, if Mark Pattinson did not suspect anything based on Hansel’s face alone, then Lyla would change her name to his!

She immediately put on a coy smile. “You have so many issues to attend to everyday Mr. Pattinson. I can’t possibly keep you away from your work!”
