Chapter 248 Why Isn’t It Me?

Gretel said generously. "Fine, since you’re so concerned about me and don't want to admit it, I won't force you!"

Hansel just rolled his eyes at her.

She had already made it so obvious, yet she said she was not forcing him.

Since she had just recovered, he would not bother with her.

Lyla watched the two siblings from the side and her lips curled up into a smile. She felt comforted by this.

She could finally hear Gretel's laughter again and nothing else was more important to her.

Lyla also hoped that such a day could last forever.

At that moment, Mark walked in and came over after seeing the trio so animated. He asked, "What are you guys talking about so happily?"

"Nothing, we were just saying that Hansel usually looks cool..."

"Ahem!"

Before Gretel could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by Hansel's deliberate cough.

Umm.

Gretel said with a smile, "I didn't think he’d be so concerned about me!"

Mark’s lips curled up into a smile seeing them like this. He was relieved as long as they were alright.

He then walked over to look at the food and could not help but pick some to eat.

Lyla saw this and immediately slapped his hand away. She chided, "You can’t eat seafood! Do you want to die?"

Mark frowned and looked torn. He pleaded, "Just one bite!"

"No! If you want to eat, eat the pastries."

Mark looked at the pastries with a disgusted expression and asked, "Can I not eat this?"

"Yes, you can choose not to eat!"

Mark was speechless.

In the end, he still reached out for a small pastry and ate it.

Lyla smiled at him. That smile was overflowing with love.

The family of four was eating and drinking while chatting. They were finally reunited after the incident.

Gretel did not mention a word about the incident.

They actually had a lot of questions, but seeing that Gretel did not mention it, they did not ask. The most important thing was her recovery.

Nevertheless, it did not mean that some things could be avoided just because she did not want to talk about them.

At that time, Lola came over.

Gretel’s impression of Lola was not deep. Besides some vague memories, she had never met Lola before.

Even so, she recognized her and knew what happened.

When Gretel saw Lola, the smile on her face faded a little.

Lyla and Mark were watching from the side and felt that the situation was a bit awkward.

Mark then took the lead and got up to ask, "Why are you here?"

"I came to see her."

Lola said as she turned to look at Gretel.

Gretel also looked at her.

Lola slowly walked over and asked, "Do you recognize me?"

Gretel nodded her head and said, "Yes."

Lola did not expect Gretel to be so calm when facing her. These two children were truly extraordinary.

"I just want to tell you that I'm sorry and didn't mean to harm you. I just happened to come across you and found that you’re very suitable for my experiment."

Gretel did not say a word but just looked straight at her with fearless eyes.

"Now we're even. No one owes anyone anything!"

Lola said this to Gretel, but it was also meant for Mark and Lyla.

The atmosphere turned awkward in an instant.

It was Hansel who broke the silence and said, "You're right. We're even now."

Lola smiled faintly and said, "I'll leave then. I wish your family happiness!"

With that, Lola turned around and left.

Suddenly, Gretel said from behind her, "I don't blame you. I just hope that it’ll never be used again."

Lola was stunned and did not turn around, but she said, "Since I plan to leave and have taken my revenge, I won't use it anymore."

After saying that, she walked away.

Lyla did not expect Gretel would say those words. Before this, Gretel was always nonchalant and arrogant, but after the incident...

It seemed that Gretel grew up after this experience.

Lyla patted her shoulder and gave her a smile of encouragement.

......

Mark followed Lola and walked out.

Lola stood outside in the large garden and gazed into the distance, unclear what she was looking at.

Mark appeared next to her and asked, "Have you thought of where to go?"

"I don't know, but I don't want to stay here."

Mark did not say much, but took out an envelope from his coat and gave it to her.

Lola took it and asked, "What’s this?"

"You’ll know when you open it."

Lola opened it to see, and the first thing that she saw was a key.

She froze.

Mark explained, "This was the place I found for Mike when he asked me to help him go into hiding so that he’d no longer have to care about these things. Later, he got into trouble and that place has been empty ever since. Now, it can finally be returned to its original owner."

Lola saw two new identification cards inside - hers and Mike's. There was also a key and a detailed address.

She lifted her gaze and looked at Mark in disbelief. She said, "I thought that you made up this story. I didn’t expect..."

Mark just smiled and did not explain further. He looked at her and said, "Since you intend to leave, be thorough before Angiulo’s people find you."

Lola looked straight at him. It took her a long time before she said two words sincerely, "Thank you!"
