Lyla was embarrassed to the core.
After Hansel went out, she looked at Mark and Mark at her. The two of them stared at each other in silence.
In the end, Lyla slammed her pillowed in Mark’s face. “Look at you, setting a bad example!”
She then got off of Mark.
Mark remained on the bed with a satisfied look, he rubbed his head and said, “Ms. Lowe, you are the one ‘bullying’ me, why is it my fault now?”
Lyla turned around and looked at the rascal on her bed, she glared at him in silence before she strode into the bathroom to wash up.
Mark smiled and got up from the bed.
After washing herself up, Lyla walked out. Mark was helping with breakfast.
She stared at Hansel and he immediately said, “It’s not me this time, mommy, I swear I didn’t give daddy the key!”
Mark nonchalantly said, “It’s not his fault, I climbed in through the window.”
Lyla was speechless. The window?
Even Hansel was shocked. “Daddy, are you trying to get yourself killed?”
“Well, I have to do it because I don’t want to sleep on the couch,” Mark said, attempting to win over their sympathy.
Lyla knew exactly what happened with the balcony and she too was shocked by the revelation. She strongly believed Mark would certainly climb through the window just to get to her room.
Without saying a word, Lyla sat down for breakfast. She ignored Mark and started reading the newspaper.
However, the moment she saw the headlines, she almost choked on the milk she drank.
“Mommy, what’s wrong?”
“Bad! Something bad happened! Something happened to the company!” Lyla looked at Mark seriously.
“Is it?” Mark munched on his breakfast as he lazily raised a brow. He did not seem interested. He either already knew about what happened or he did not care at all.
“Project C lost a lot of money and many clients wanted to discontinue the contract! M.K. is facing a crisis here!” Lyla read out the article on the front page.
Mark’s reaction was slim, he did not say anything as if it had nothing to do with him.
Hansel also ate his breakfast quietly.
Gretel on the other hand was drifting away while stuffing breakfast into her mouth, her mind had floated away from her body.
Lyla noticed the thin reaction from everyone and she felt something was not right. She looked at Mark. “You don't seem concerned.”
“I’m not M.K.’s CEO now, why should I be concerned?”
“But it’s the company that you started from the ground!”
Mark then looked at her. “Feeling sorry for me?”
Lyla’s face twitched helplessly, which was completely intuitive, she said, “I’m concerned that when you’re poor, Hansel and Gretel wouldn’t get a penny from you, it’s not worth it for them!”
Mark was speechless, he glared at Lyla.
He knew she did not mean what she said but he still wanted to punish that mouth of hers for teasing him.
If all she wanted was money, she could have got to him earlier and got a fortune from him.
He smiled at her. “Ms. Lowe, if you are really concerned about me, there’s no need for you to cover it up, I accept it wholeheartedly.”
‘You narcissist!’ Lyla criticized him in her heart.
She looked at the newspaper again, she believed something was not right. It was fine if Mark reacted thinly to the situation but Hansel?
Hansel might not have learned about Mark’s matter but he would certainly feel bad for his daddy. The two of them acted as if nothing happened, so there must be something going on behind the back.
Lyla looked at them. “Mark, is this part of your plan?”
Mark continued eating and did not even look at her. He did not deny but also did not acknowledge it.
‘I knew it, he admitted it! I knew it!’
“You are really ruthless!” Lyla said to Mark.
“If I don’t do it now, how can I secure my position?” Mark said.
Lyla looked into his eyes. She had to admit that his plan was ruthless and merciless, Logan could never overcome the trouble.
Logan would have to come begging Mark for him to go back to save the company, otherwise, M.K. would not just suffer a financial loss, the company might face bankruptcy!
No matter how arrogant Logan was, the Pattisons would never let something like this happen!
For whatever reasons, Lyla felt calmer after she knew what was going on.
‘Strange, why was I worrying just now?’
Mark did not even spare a glance at the newspaper, he continued chewing on his breakfast and even joked with the twins as if he was an irrelevant person.
After breakfast, Mark’s phone rang.
“Daddy, your phone is ringing,” Gretel said.
“Got it.” His phone was right beside him but he did not even look at it.
Lyla shook her head helplessly at his attitude. He must have gotten ahead of himself, he knew who was calling yet he did not want to answer it. He had a bad habit of making people nervous.
The phone rang ceaselessly.
The longer Mark left it idle, the longer the phone rang as if it was determined to get to Mark.
However, Mark had what it took to not answer the phone and be arrogant.
After cleaning up the table, Lyla had to go to work and before she left, Mark said, “I’ll walk you out.”
“Huh?”
“Let’s go.”
Lyla somehow obediently followed him out.
