The next day.
By the time Lyla came to, Mark was not there anymore. Without putting much thought into it, she briefly straightened herself out before walking out the door.
She bumped into Hansel and Lingo who were about to head out.
“Mummy, you’re awake?”
“Yes.” Lyla nodded. Struck by a thought, she looked towards Hansel. “Right, where’s your daddy?”
“Daddy... Uh, he’s in the cafe,” Hansel answered.
“Cafe?”
“Yes.” Hansel bobbed his head.
Without enquiring further, she made her way straight to the cafe.
However, Lyla was dumbstruck when she stepped into the cafe.
There were two men sitting inside the cafe.
Of equally breath-taking good looks and commanding presence, the pair sat opposite each other. The outdoor sunlight shone into the place, casting an indescribable aura around them.
“Who would have thought that we would one day sit down, have coffee together and chat.” Felix Smith’s pale face let off an illusion of a sickly beauty. Drinking his coffee, he displayed the usual gentility.
Mark curled his lips into a smile. “Everything is possible in this world.”
“I wouldn’t have agreed to this before but now, I’m of the same mind.”
The duo may be seated down for a conversation yet for some reason, there was some sort of tension between them.
The kind of intensity in the air that could be felt but not seen.
Lyla watched on in horror.
She quickly approached them.
“You guys...”
“You’re awake?”
“You’re awake?”
The pair cried out in unison.
Lyla. “...”
Staring at him, Lyla was unsure who to answer first.
Mark and Felix exchanged a glance. There was a hidden profundity in their eyes that only they could grasp.
Lyla looked to Felix. “What brings you here? Shouldn’t you be resting at home?”
Felix nonchalantly raised his brows. “You should ask him that.”
He then turned his eyes to Mark.
Lyla’s gaze fell on Mark too and the latter got up. “I told him to come over.”
“Huh?”
“I specifically asked Mr. Smith over to thank him for taking care of you.”
“Mr. Pattinson, you’re too polite.” Felix got on his feet. “I don’t think the expression of gratitude is necessary. It’s expected of me.”
Once again, their eyes met. “What’s the meaning of this, Mr. Smith?”
“Mr Pattinson, I’m sure you’re able to read between the lines.”
“I...”
“Shut up!” Lyla spoke up.
Thus, Mark and Felix both shut their traps.
Lyla took a glance at Mark. “Didn’t I let you know yesterday? Felix shouldn’t be moving around while he’s badly hurt.”
“I...”
“Lyla, there’s no need to get upset over me. I’m not that fragile,” Felix chimed in.
“Did you forget the doctor’s orders?” Lyla threw a question at him.
Felix. “...”
Faced with Lyla’s eyes and questioning, Felix was lost for words. Hence, he compliantly threw in the towel.
The pair who put on airs just minutes earlier were now given a telling-off like children.
It was such an amusing sight.
Once Lyla was done giving them a piece of her mind, Felix said, “Okay, I was reckless. It’s my fault. Don’t be angry.”
“I shouldn’t have told him to come.” Mark admitted to his mistake.
Lyla sat on a chair, furious, worried, conflicted, upset, many emotions mixed into one.
She was hung up about Gretel. How could she not be worried when there was no news at all about her, and with Felix in this condition?
Mark and Felix got the jitters when Lyla was in rage. The duo stopped their fighting and turned to look at each other without the nerve to speak.
Just then, Shadow hurried in from outside, looking rather nervous.
“Boss.”
“Speak.”
“We’ve received intel.”
Hearing this, Mark and Lyla lifted their heads. Simply hearing the word “intel” was enough to stir them both.
Felix put on a straight face and turned to him before coldly uttering, “What’s the intel? Do relay.”
“According to sources, there was indeed a little girl that arrived around this area some time ago.”
They were a bundle of nerves to learn it was about Gretel.
“And now?”
“Now...”
Shadow could not find the right words to explain.
Lyla was disconcerted by his humming and hawing, knowing well it would not be good.
“Please continue, I can take it,” Lyla said. It was still way better than having no developments on the case.
Shadow lifted his eyes to meet Felix’s before opening up. “She has wound up on the black market.”
Mark’s brow furrowed at the mention of the black market.
Lyla did not fully comprehend the meaning behind these words but with Hansel giving her an account of Hell’s Angel, she could more or less draw up a conclusion.
“Is she still alive?” Lyla enquired.
“She was still alive in the black market but now...” Shadow did not finish the sentence. However, the outcome was plain to see.
Felix was looking no better. “Spread the word. She must be found regardless of the cost. Let me know immediately once there’s any findings.”
