“No.”
Lyla had just got up when Mark pushed her back down.
“Why?” Lyla threw the question at him.
Mark pursed his lips before uttering, “Don’t act rashly. We don’t have proof. It will only put him on guard should we hastily go and quiz him.”
Lyla frowned. “Is that the only reason you’re stopping me?”
Furrowing his brows, Mark replied, “I won’t deny that I have my suspicions about him but it’s a possible scenario. I hope you’re able to get a hold of yourself before we figure out what’s going on.”
Lyla pulled herself together, not because she suspected Felix, but rather going along with it for the sake of Gretel.
In the end, she bobbed her head.
Hansel turned to Mark. “Daddy, what’s your next plans?”
Mark fell into contemplation and said, “I intend to get someone to sound her out.”
“Get someone?” Hansel made a scowling face. “According to sources, Lola may be focused on her research but she’s proficient in the art of self defense. They might not be her match if we get a random person.”
“In that case, I should go,” Mark retorted. He had to give it a go no matter what.
“No.” Hansel shook his head. “We ran into her while we were over at Felix’s. She would definitely recognize you if you went. It will only put her on the lookout if Gretel’s really in her hands.”
“But there’s no other way.”
“There is.”
With the door suddenly pushed open, Lingo took strides in from outside. “I’ll go.”
“Lingo, you?”
Lingo gave a nod. “I should go, whether it’s my duty or from a personal standpoint.”
Hansel nodded in agreement. “It would work. Your skills are among the best and not just anyone can beat you. You’re the best candidate to go.”
Ling bobbed her head. “Don’t worry, I will find out about Gretel.”
“Lola has a knack for using poison. You must be careful,” Mark urged.
“I will.” Lingo gave a nod. “I should go make preparations.”
“Sure.”
“Lingo.” Standing up, Lyla called out to her.
Lingo turned back.
“Thank you.”
“There’s no need for that. I’m just doing my part.” Lingo then turned and left.
Lyla watched on with a worried look on her face.
Acquainted with the gravity of the matter, she knew that every move would prove dangerous. She was concerned about Gretel yet afraid that something might happen to Lingo. She would only blame herself if anything went wrong.
“Mommy, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.” Hansel offered comfort to Lyla.
Lyla bobbed her head. “Okay.”
……
Lola was in the laboratory when someone came in.
“How was it? Is the report out?”
“Yes.”
Hearing this, Lola turned back. “What does it say?”
“Incredibly high antibody immunity.”
Lola smiled at the result. “Who would have thought a young child like her would have such resistance and willpower.”
“What do we do now?”
“Prepare the fluid. I will personally inject her later.”
“Yes.”
The medical assistant turned and went out.
Lola continued her research on a concoction. Her phone then started ringing, prompting her to pick up as it happened. “Hello.”
However, she stopped in motion after hearing the conversation from the other end.
Terminating the call, Lola removed her white coat and headed out.
She was just at the door when Black Eagle bumped into her head-on. “Outside...”
“Got it.”
“Uh...” Black Eagle stared at her but the latter was already gone.
An agile figure went around in circles out there before being discovered and hunted down. However, these people were unworthy opponents to the person.
Soon, the figure shook them off and disappeared out of sight.
The roof.
A silhouette quickly emerged.
“It’s you?”
Lingo turned around, revealing the arrogant smile on that alluring face. “It’s me.”
“Why are you here?”
“I was thinking of you so I came.”
Lola narrowed her eyes. “Oh, that’s it?”
“Why else do you think I’m here?” Lingo frivolously returned the question before squinting her eyes. “Why are you all worked up for? Are you up to some monkey business?”
“I have done a lot of monkey business. What? Do I have to report to you?” Lola refused to back down.
Following the statement, Lingo slowly drew close, stirring Lola to pull out a gun and point at her. “What are you trying to do?”
Unfazed, Lingo curled her lips. “I only want to have a chat with you. Why are you getting all jittery?”
“Don’t give me that. What are you really up to?” Lola trusted none of Lingo’s baloney.
Lingo remained laid-back. “It’s been a while, old friend, and this is how you treat me?”
“Just tell me. What’s the purpose of you coming here?” Lola asked.
With Lingo gradually pulling a straight face, Lola’s skittishness turned ferocious. “Who do you think will be faster, you or me?”
