He was an extremist. To him, everything was either black or white. He would seek revenge on whoever had hurt the people he loved regardless of their identities.

Lyla was worried about Hansel as she looked at him. Her son stuck to his own thoughts and principles. No matter what she said, he would do things otherwise behind her back despite seemingly obeying what she said.

Lyla knew them too well!

“Hansel, Mommy wants you to understand that human relationships—”

“Mommy, I understand. You want me to treat everyone with kindness and forgiveness, am I right? I know that!”

Before Lyla could even finish her words, she was interrupted by Hansel. Lyle nodded as she looked at Hansel.

“I know about that. I’ll listen to you, Mommy. Stop being a worrywart!” Hansel smiled as he spoke. He did not want to linger on this topic with Lyla because he knew that his mother was a big-hearted and compassionate person by nature. So no matter what he said, the results would still be the same.

Lyla could not figure out his thoughts. Nevertheless, she assumed his answer was a positive sign and she nodded. “Good, let’s start eating!”

“Mhm!”

The three of them ate.

At that moment, a thought crossed Gretel’s mind and she looked at her. “Mommy, will Daddy misunderstand you in regards to that matter?”

Speaking of Mark Pattinson, Lyla was a little startled.

“I don’t know!”

“Aren’t you worried that Daddy might misunderstand you?” Gretel asked

“There’s nothing to worry about. If he believes in me, he will. If he doesn’t, he won’t believe a word I say. As such, there’s nothing to be afraid of!” Lyla said.

Although she admitted that she was indeed startled to see him on that day, she did not want to consider Mark Pattinson as someone different. She felt no other emotion except shock when she saw him.

“Mommy, why don’t you apply for two days’ leave and have a good rest at home? Otherwise, you will surely hear the gossip in your company!” Hansel said.

Lyla shook her head firmly. “There’s no need to do so. After all, I’ve done nothing wrong. Why should I apply for leave?”

If she rested at home, she would end up becoming the subject of gossip even more.

Hansel watched Lyla. This was his mother. She never avoided anything, and she always faced troubles head-on.

After taking her meal, Lyla headed off to her company immediately.

As she expected, everyone was whispering about the incident. Rumor had it that Lyla had pushed Kathleen down the staircase.

Lyla kept cool even when she heard the spread of various kinds of rumors. This was just office culture. The simplest action could stir up a storm.

As such, the best method to deal with it was just to ignore it.

As soon as Lyla and Lily walked into the Department of Design after lunch, they heard people talking.

“I never thought that she would be so ruthless despite looking so harmless!”

“Exactly! Mr. Pattinson and Ms. Turner nearly lost their child!”

Lyla could not help but feel her heart tremble when she heard that word.

She had already guessed that when she saw her bleed that day. Yet, she felt differently when the words were spoken through others.

Lily stood beside her. She frowned when she noticed Lyla’s dark expression.

“Stop running your mouths off when you don’t know the truth. You can’t work well, but you sure know how to gossip, huh?!” Lily said as she looked at them.

When they heard Lily, they turned their heads and looked at Lyla.

But they did not avoid confronting them. Instead, they snorted, “We’re only telling the truth. If you don’t want someone accusing you of something, then don’t do it! It’s our first time seeing someone so ruthless!” A few of the female colleagues surrounded them and smirked while they looked at Lyla.

Lily frowned. “What do you know—”

Lyla had wished to turn a deaf ear to their ignorance. However, she hated herself to be misunderstood. Therefore, before Lily finished her sentence, she walked forward, and said confidently, “Are you saying that I’ve pushed her down from the staircase? Do you have any evidence? If not, I’ll consider that as an act of defamation. Trust me, I’ll sue you.”

All of them were instantly stunned by Lyla’s remarks.

And out of nowhere, someone who was not afraid of trouble stood up boldly and exclaimed, “Isn’t that the case? Someone saw it with their own eyes!”

“Did that person now? What did that person see?” Lyla refuted, then, she said with a smile, “Oh, I’ve nearly forgotten! Our company has installed surveillance cameras. Well, all of you can check the surveillance cameras to find out the truth. Shall we take a look at the video now?”

After Lyla said these words, everyone was as silent as a grave.

If she were the culprit, she would not dare to talk about checking the surveillance cameras.

If she were not the culprit, what had really happened?

All of them were intimidated by Lyla’s aura.

After listening to Lyla, Lily cheered!

When everyone thought Lyla was a weakling, but once she showed her might, she proved them otherwise!

“Well said! Let’s check the surveillance cameras. I’m afraid the gossipmonger will have to prepare himself for the court because defamation is definitely a crime!” Lily exclaimed fiercely to work out her anger.

Everyone stared at each other. Someone took the lead and said, “I can’t be bothered with you!”

With that, everyone left.

Lyla and Lily were the only two who remained standing on the spot and watched them leave. Lily could not help but laugh happily. “All of them will only bully the weak! Lyla, what you said just now was very cool! Did you see their expressions, it felt really good watching it!”

Lily admired Lyla’s quick-witted and courageous demeanor. With just a few words, she managed to intimidate them.

Lyla said calmly, “Rumors will fall in the face of facts!” All that she had said were facts, so there was nothing she needed to be afraid of.

Lily nodded. “You’re right. However, I really wished you had pushed her down!”
