“I don’t want it because...” Lyla really could not find the right words. Giving a property or a car was a tactic adopted by the rich when in pursuit of women. This was the reason behind Lyla’s refusal.
“Because what?” Mark proceeded his questioning.
Lyla stared at him with her mind blank.
She then smiled. “How can I possibly refuse your gesture since you’re being so generous and nice to Hansel and Gretel to make it up to them?”
With that, she picked up the document and reached out an arm. “Pen?”
Mark whipped out a pen from his jacket and gave it to her.
Lyla took it and quickly signed the document.
With her writing her name on it, Mark let out a satisfied grin.
Even Hansel and Gretel were at a corner snickering.
Finally after Lyla put her signature on it, Gretel excitedly said, “We have a new house at last and a big one too!”
Hearing this, Lyla swept her glance over. “Aww, was residing in the living space before too hard on you?”
“Huh, no... I just want to live in a bigger house!” Gretel came clean.
She was the mollycoddled type and had Princess Syndrome too. Lyla helplessly shook her head.
Nevertheless, by the looks of it, the kids really liked the property given by Mark.
Mark cheerfully put away the contract before giving a remark. “Okay, you can have it in a few days?”
“We can’t move in immediately?”
“I was going to stay in this place in the past so it has already been renovated. I plan to purchase new furniture but that will take some time. You can move right in once the place is ready!” Mark answered.
“Daddy, you’re the best!” Gretel jumped on him.
Hansel was all smiles as well. He wanted to buy a place originally but now it seemed he could save the lump sum instead.
He felt good about it!
Mostly importantly, there was no need for Hansel to rack his brains to explain to Mommy.
Lyla then turned to Mark and said, “Mr. Pattinson, you have not fulfilled any duties as a father over the years. Don’t think for a second that giving away a house means we’re even.”
“And?”
“What about a car? I have to pick them up and drop them off everyday for classes. I’m sure you don’t want your children hailing a cab?” Lyla asked.
Speaking of this, Mark was really taking his time to consider it.
However, Hansel and Gretel looked askance at Mommy.
When did she ever pick them up and drop them off everyday for classes?
They handled themselves each time.
Nevertheless Hansel admired Mommy’s “ambition”.
Daddy was so rich so she might as well.
Who knew Mark would enquire in a calm manner in return? “What type of car do you want?”
Taken aback by the calm tone at first, Lyla cooperated and turned over to look at Hansel. “Darling, what car is the best and most expensive?”
“Uh...” Hansel was dumbfounded for a moment and replied, “There are a lot of good cars. What’s the look you’re after?”
“I’m after...” Lyla gave it a thought before pretending to see the light. “Oh, right. Mr. Pattinson, your Rolls Royce isn’t too bad!”
Hansel. “...”
Mommy was sure demanding a lot.
Gretel. “...”
Mommy was awesomely cool!
Mark curled his lips. “You sure have a huge appetite!”
“What? Are you reluctant to part with it? Are you heartbroken?” Lyla teased with a smile.
“It’s not that I'm reluctant to part with the car but a Rolls Royce isn’t suited for women. Let me pick a car for you!”
“Tsk!”
Lyla turned her eyes away.
Truth be told, her intention was not to get a car out of it but to hand Mark a piece of humble pie. Nonetheless, not only was this man not put down, it got worse as he acted all unbothered.
Mark grinned at her without saying a word. Just then, his phone rang, prompting him to pick it up for a look. “I’m going out to take a call!”
Without any response from Lyla, he headed straight out.
It was J calling about a few matters at work. After engaging in a conversation for a while, J was going to hang up when Mark added. “Oh, place a booking on a car... Uh, make it a Porsche!”
On the other end of the line, J meekly enquired amid his shock, “Is it for Ms. Lowe?”
“Yes!”
It seemed as though Boss was on the path of bleeding himself dry!
First a house, now a car.
He should really get on Lyla’s good side.
“Okay, I got it!”
“That is all!” Mark then terminated the call.
Not wanting anyone to disrupt family time together, Mark switched off his phone.
He returned to the ward after the deed was done.
Hansel and Gretel were sitting in bed, chatting with Lyla and the latter was smiling rather brightly. However, the sight of Mark entering the room prompted Lyla to strip away the smile.
Mark was teed off by her two-faced attitude.
Giving her the cold shoulder, he walked over as if nothing had happened and told Hansel and Gretel. “Are you hungry? Let me take you out for dinner!”
“Sure, sure!” Gretel gave an immediate response. She would be bored to death remaining in the hospital.
