Watching their receding figures, Justin furrowed his brows and narrowed his eyes.
In some ways, Hansel’s character was leaning more towards the present Mark. If possible, Mark should have behaved like this during his younger days.
Full of confidence, cheery and sometimes devious.
However, when he was young...
Justin closed his eyes. This was the first time his memory brought him back to Mark’s childhood...
It was also the first time he felt sorry and guilty.
…...
With Justin home, Eileen came forth and enquired with worry, “How was it? Were you able to get anything out of them?”
Shaking his head, Justin entered the room with a blank face. “No.”
“No?” Eileen was flustered. “What does Mark want? No matter what, Logan is his brother. How could he do this?”
She then turned to Justin, calling him into question. “Don’t you care? Logan is your son!”
“Yes, he’s my son but Mark’s my son as well,” Justin snapped back. However, he was shocked after saying these words.
Eileen was in disbelief by his remark, but soon sneered. “Hehe, what? Now you’re saying he’s your son? Justin, you really have my respect but you’ve missed the boat.”
Justin’s face turned sour as he kept to himself. He really did not want to fight with her.
“What about Logan? Isn’t Logan your son? He’s holding Logan captive and god knows if he’s dead or alive!”
“Would things have ended up this way if it wasn’t for you? Why did you do what you did if you’re that worried?” Unable to hold back, Justin shouted.
Eileen was taken aback. Pale in the face, she stared at him in disbelief. “What are you saying? What is the meaning of this?”
“What do I mean? You know well what I mean. Logan would not have been taken away had you not done all that!”
Eileen looked at him with vacant eyes.
In fact, she was aware that the matter could not be kept under wraps but Justin had always turned a blind eye. It never occurred to her that he would be so blunt today.
Faced with Eileen’s silence, Justin proceeded. “They told me today that everything you did will be added onto Logan.”
Eileen lost her footing and took a step back. Her mind was blank. It took quite a while before her focus was back on Justin.
“No, Justin. Logan is our son. Are you going to let him be tortured by them?” While gazing at him, her eyes welled up, her tone, pleading.
Eileen had never been so meek throughout the years.
The duo may not be affectionate but this had never happened before.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Go find him. He will listen to you and release Logan. He’s our son and this has nothing to do with him...” Eileen held onto Justin’s clothes as she begged.
Justin frowned to see her like this. It was not as though he had no feelings.
“Of course, I know that but you went too far. They’re not going to let him go.”
“Then-then what are we to do?” Eileen asked before blurting. “Let’s call the cops.”
She quickly turned around and picked up the phone on the table to make a call. Just then, Justin spoke, “Wouldn’t your ploy be exposed if you call the cops?”
Holding onto the phone, Eileen paused for a second. Tears flowed down her cheeks. “I don’t care. It doesn’t matter what happens to me as long as Logan’s okay!” She had just grabbed the phone and dialed a number when Justin took large strides over to snatch the phone away. He disconnected the call and hurled the phone aside.
“Knock it off!”
“What am I supposed to do? I can’t just let Logan suffer in their hands. Mark’s going to be hard on him.” Eileen looked at him with worry.
With a sullen look on his face, Justin pursed his lips for a moment before muttering. “Nothing will happen to Logan. I’ll think of something.”
Eileen’s mind was a little at rest by the statement. “You have to be quick. Who knows how Logan is doing now?”
Hearing this, Justin turned towards her. “Mark might live life on the fast lane but he won’t go to such lengths. Logan will be fine as long as he doesn’t step on Mark’s toes.”
“And you trust him that much?”
“Although I’ve rarely shown concern for him over the years, I’m still clear of the type of person he is,” Justin calmly said.
Eileen was about to say something when Justin continued. “Also, I hope this is the end of the matter. Don’t do anything overboard. Mark is not the same person he used to be. I don’t know what he would do next.”
Was that a threat?
Eileen kept her eyes on Justin but the latter went straight upstairs after leaving these words.
She gazed at his receding figure. This was his first time speaking up for Mark in all these years. Was he on Mark’s side too?
With that in mind, Eileen fell into disarray. Clenching her fists tight, her heart was filled with resentment.
