The lot in the ward exchanged glances.
Acting as though he was unfamiliar with this person, Mark proceeded to sip on his soup with a blank expression.
“How did you bump into each other?” Hansel asked her with a frown.
‘Who knows? She was all over me claiming that I blackmailed her.” Lingo looked speechless.
Lyla. “...”
This was the truth. Hansel tipped her the wink but Lingo was oblivious.
Hansel was without a word. They all know about it except for Lyla.
Gretel walked over and tugged on Lingo’s blouse before whispering. “This did happen. Don’t you remember?”
Lingo blinked her eyes. That seemed to be the case.
“I made the trade with her for her own good. It’s not extortion,” Lingo spoke in hushed tones.
Gretel, “...”
Only Lingo would try and explain herself out of it.
While they were talking, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Lyla uttered.
A figure entered the room.
The room fell silent at the person’s presence.
Kathleen took strides into the room with a bouquet but was quickly taken aback by the crowd in the room.
“Ms. Lowe, you’re here as well?” Kathleen gazed at Lyla who was in bed and asked.
With her eyes fixating on Kathleen, Lyla was at a loss for words, not knowing what to say.
Kathleen probably felt awkward. “I didn’t know you were here... I...”
“Why are you here?” Mark threw the question at Kathleen. Emotions could not be discerned from his flat tone.
“I heard that you’re hospitalized due to an injury so I’m here to see you. Nevertheless, I didn’t think Ms. Lowe would be here too.” Kathleen turned to Lyla. “Ms. Lowe, please don’t misunderstand. I have no other intentions apart from visiting Mark.”
Lyla curled her lips, her eyes spoke of serenity. “I won’t.”
With her mind at rest, Kathleen took a glance at the flowers in her hands. “If that’s the case, this is for you.”
Lyla grinned at the bouquet in Kathleen’s arms. “Thank you.”
Gretel went ahead and took the flowers just as Lyla was about to accept them. “Mommy, let me help you put them up.”
“Sure.” Lyla bobbed her head.
Kathleen wanted to say something when she caught a glimpse of Lingo standing in a corner.
Furrowing her brows, she grew displeased. “What are you doing here?”
A personification of culture and class, Lingo made light of her. “Why can’t I be here?”
“You-you know each other?” Kathleen stared at them with sorrowful eyes.
Having no idea of the situation, Lyla frowned. “What’s wrong?”
“The video back then was shot by you, right? You used it to blackmail me.” Kathleen called Lingo into question.
Lingo disagreed. “You were bold enough to do what you did yet you’re afraid to be caught on tape?”
“You—” Kathleen charged forward and raised her hand to slap Lingo on the face but the latter managed to overcome her in time.
Lingo coldly scoffed in the face of her menacingly exquisite face. “Do you think that you can beat me?
“Trust me when I say I can squeeze you like a bug.”
“You—” Kathleen darted her a resentful look yet she was powerless against this woman.
With the duo coming into blows, Lyla frowned. “What’s going on here?”
“About this...” Hansel did not know where to start.
He was the mastermind behind everything after all.
“Mommy, this has nothing to do with you. Keep out of it.”
“But...”
“Oh, it’s their business so just leave it to them.” Hansel jumped in.
“Yes, yes.”
Lyla. “...”
Watching from the sidelines, Mark had an inkling about what was going on. He was unsure of the reason why Lingo came the other day but everything seemed to make sense now.
“How about you and me, a fight outside?” Lingo slapped a duel in her face.
Of course Kathleen knew that she was no match to Lingo. Withdrawing her arm, she turned to Lyla. “So everything before was your doing?”
Lyla was not offended to have the blame fall on her. This was not the first time after all and she was used to it.
“Would you believe me if I told you that I’m unaware of this?”
“You know each other, right?” Kathleen sneered. “I was so naive to think that you were helping me. I guess this is not the case.
“I wouldn’t have sunk this low if it were not for you people.”
Lyla, “...”
Giving them a resentful look, she slammed the door behind her.
Lyla, “...”
In fact, Lyla was skeptical of Kathleen’s recent change. Since this had happened, Lyla was worried Kathleen may return to her former self.
She helplessly sighed.
Hansel uttered, “Lingo, I have a thing to attend to. Come out with me for a moment.”
“What? What’s the matter?” Lingo asked.
“I have something going on. Come with me.”
