“Rome? Then… Let’s fly over there now.” Lyla frowned for a moment before she made up her mind.

“I came back to tell you this. I’ve made the necessary arrangements and we are leaving today.”

Mark knew her best, she wished she could teleport there right away.

Lyla nodded strongly.

“But…” Mark looked at her. He looked a little worried about what he was about to say.

“Even if we are in Rome, it’s impossible to find Gretel right away, do you understand that?”

Lyla nodded. “I understand. Any news about Gretel is the best news to me. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Mark pulled her to his arms. “As long as you are fine, I can concentrate on finding Gretel.”

“Even though I can’t do anything, I assure you I won’t be a burden. Don’t worry, before we get Gretel back, I will keep myself safe.” Lyla emphasized her own well-being over and over again, she did not know whether she was trying to convince herself or Mark.

Mark stroked her head, he felt relieved with her assurance.

It was then that some noise came from downstairs.

Mark and Lyla were surprised by the sudden commotion. They glanced at each other before they left the room.

It was Justin and he had come with a temper.

“Grandfather!”

“Don’t stop me! I want to know how they lost her!” Justin was furious.

Mark came out from the room and saw the furious Justin storming into the house. He frowned and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Justin got even angrier when he saw Mark. “Gretel is missing? What are you doing as a parent!? How did you lose her?!”

Mark reacted bitterly when Justin mentioned Gretel. “She’s my daughter, I wish that she’s here more than anyone. What are you doing here? You came all the way here just to question me?”

Justin knew it was useless even if he tried to pressure Mark but he was still furious. “Then why didn’t you inform me?”

“She’s my daughter, why should I inform you?”

“YOU!”

Justin was silenced by the argument and he could not find the appropriate words to fight back. The father-son relationship was stretched to the limit, a few more arguments and it might start a war.

Hansel watched from the side. “Daddy hasn’t rested ever since Gretel went missing, please stop it, Grandfather.”

Justin knew he should not put the blame on Mark but he did not know what to do. He tightened his lips for a while before he said, “Is there any news on her now?”

“We found someone who smuggled her away at the port. She was smuggled to Vegas and then transferred to Rome. We are going to Rome today,” Hansel said.

Justin reacted stiffly at those words. “When are you leaving?”

“We are leaving after we finish preparing.”

Justin stook a deep breath. “If that’s the case, remember to inform me if you find anything there. I’ll take care of things here.”

Even though he did not look at Mark when he said that, everyone knew who those words were meant for.

“Thank you, Grandfather,” Hansel said politely.

Mark also looked away, he did not know what to say to his father.

“I believe Gretel will be fine. She’s a smart girl, sometimes even smarter than a boy!” Justin said.

No one answered him or continued the topic because no one knew what to say at that instant.

The atmosphere quieted down and time felt like it stopped.

Justin sat down in silence, it was obvious that he too was in a bad mood.

Mark and Hansel returned to packing and making the necessary arrangements.

An hour later, Hansel said to Mark, “Daddy, Lingo is already waiting for us at the airport.”

Mark nodded. “Let’s go then.”

Hansel nodded.

Right before they left, Justin bolted up. “Remember to inform me if you find anything.”

A while ago, when he had charged in, the man was angry and furious but now, he looked like a poor old man worried about his missing granddaughter.

Even though Justin treated Mark and Lyla poorly, he was fond of the twins.

Mark paused. He said without turning around, “You said you will take care of things here. If I bring Gretel back and things are messed up, I won’t believe you anymore.”

He then left without giving Justin the chance to answer.

Justin was stunned, he knew what Mark meant.

Hansel felt consoled when he heard that. After this incident, he knew that kinship was a bond that could not be severed.

“Grandfather, we will be leaving now,” Hansel said.

Justin nodded. “Be careful out there. Take care of yourself no matter what, try to stay out of danger.”

“I understand, you don’t have to worry.” Hansel nodded.

Justin’s eyes started to get teary but he was afraid that Hansel might see him, so he turned away.

Hansel chuckled. “I’ll bring Gretel back and make her call you grandfather!”

Justin was having a strange feeling that he could not put into words.

Hansel went up to him for a hug before he said, “Okay, I must go now.”

When Justin turned around, Hansel had already gotten into the car with Mark.

“You guys better come back in one piece!” Justin shouted as he saw them off.

He was not sure whether they heard him or not because the car had driven off.

He stood there alone, watching as the car drove out of his sight and fell into deep thought.
