Rotten Twins: Making a CEO a Daddy นิยาย บท 234

“What’s the situation? What happened to Lola?” Mark looked at Hansel and enquired.

“The shot missed her vital organs so her life is not in critical danger but Felix has held her captive. I have no clue as to where she’s locked up or any more information about that.” Hansel shook his head.

“What is Felix thinking!” Lingo was sulky in one corner. Who said women were complicated? The way she saw it, men were way more complex.

No one talked.

On the account that no one could guess what was on Felix’s mind.

Felix almost killed Lola because of Gretel and Lyla, yet he imprisoned her and refused to see anyone. His actions were hard to read into.

“Gretel has a fighting chance as long as Lola’s not dead,” Lyla remarked as she lifted her eyes to stare at them. “I believe that Felix won’t do anything to save Gretel but... I’m just afraid Gretel might not hang on until then.”

“It’s difficult to say...” Lingo wanted to give her two cents but stopped when Hansel gave her a look. She realized then that she misspoke. “What I mean to say is, Gretel will pull through.”

Lyla did not take Lingo’s words to heart as the latter often spoke her mind and had no malicious intent. A sharpshooter like her was usually the last to be suspected.

Lyla gazed at the tiny frame lying in bed. She was so young yet something like this happened to her.

Compared to other children of similar age, Gretel was a poor little thing.

Clenching her fists, Lyla turned around. “I’m going to see Felix.” She motioned to leave.

Hansel came in the way. “Mommy, it’s no use. He’s refusing to see anyone. I just came back from there,” Hansel helplessly replied. It never occurred to him that their relationship with Felix would come to this. In more accurate terms, he had envisioned thousands of parting scenarios in his head but none like this.

“It’s his business whether he wants to see me or not but going there is my decision,” Lyla resolutely answered. She refused to believe that Felix could be so heartless.

With that, Lyla was ready to go but Mark held her from behind.

She turned back to glance at Mark. Her eyes spoke of heartache and helplessness.

“I’ll go with you.”

Lyla shook her head. “It’s best I go alone.”

“But...”

“Mark, trust me,” Lyla told him.

Mark knew where she was coming from. In the end, he slowly released his hold.

“Mommy.”

“Stay here and watch over your sister. Notify me immediately if there’s any development,” Lyla uttered.

Hansel was aware that there was turning back once Lyla had made up her mind. He nodded. “I got it.”

Lyla then took off.

Watching as the scene unfolded, Lingo turned to Mark. “Are you letting her go just like that?”

“She knows what she’s doing.”

“But...”

Lingo wanted to say something but Hansel tugged at her to beckon her to stop, prompting Lingo to keep it to herself. Only, she really needed to get it out of her chest.

……

Once Lyla arrived at Felix’s place, it was as mentioned by Hansel — Hansel refused to meet with anyone.

Shadow emerged before her. He kept the usual straight face on but was more polite towards Lyla. “Ms. Lowe, please return. Boss said that he’s not seeing anyone.”

“I know. I’m just going to wait here. He can come meet me when he feels like it,” Lyla stood in front of him and said. By the firm look on her face, she was definitely not leaving until she had seen Felix.

Furrowing his brows, Shadow wanted to give his input but held his tongue in the end. He merely nodded before turning to leave.

Lyla stood there, waiting from morning to afternoon. She did not even move from her position and stood upright there, biding her time.

Shadow showed up a few times. Seeing that Lyla was still there, he instructed someone to fetch her water.

“Ms. Lowe, have some water to drink. You’ve been waiting for a day,” The maid muttered. Lyla had seen this person before — she was a foreigner proficient in English.

Lyla did not flinch. “It’s okay. Thank you but I’m not hungry.”

“But you’ve been waiting the whole day.”

“I’m okay.”

Lyla remained unswayed. The maid had no choice but to let it go and depart.

Still, Lyla did not take a look as she perched there, cooling her heels.

In fact, Lyla knew of Felix’s feelings for her but she never gave a straight answer. She only thought of Felix as an irreplaceable family member.

Growing up, no one was this good to her apart from her mother. Hence, she cherished him.

Despite knowing Felix’s feelings for her, Lyla never faced the question head-on because she did not want to lose this “family” relation.

Yet now...

She was unsure if the relationship remained the same but she was taking a leap in the dark.

Lyla was taking a chance of their past, their good times together, and Felix’s feelings for her...

Call her selfish for making use of Felix’s feelings but Lyla did not mind shouldering the bad name. Right here and now, she was a mother, a mother out to save her daughter’s life...

She wondered if God took pity on her or blessed her with fine weather.

It started raining during the afternoon.

Following an overcast, the drizzles began to pour down heavily. Lyla stood in the rain, not moving from her position as she stared straight in the direction of Felix’s room.

Even if her lies angered Felix, even if he put the happy times behind him, Lyla would still wait because this was her only hope.

……

In a room.

Felix lay in bed with his face as white as a sheet.

He had not recovered from his wounds and now another injury was added. This was not important though. Finding out about Lyla’s lies really made his blood boil which in turn, worsened his injury.

Adding plenty of alcohol to the mix, Felix was too weak to take another blow.
