“It’s nothing serious. The lack of exercise for an extended period of time has caused muscle function loss. This is normal. Just be careful when carrying out any form of activity and you’ll be as good as new soon enough,” The doctor said.
Kyle was pleasantly surprised. “Really?”
“You don’t believe me?”
“No, no, no, I don’t mean that.” Kyle immediately spoke while looking at Lyla with a smile. “As long as she’s okay.”
Lyla’s mind was put at ease.
“Only, you might experience some difficulty moving your legs at the start of any exercise. Be careful, don’t rush yourself, and take it slowly.”
“Sure, got it. Thank you, doctor.”
“Oh, does she need to take medication of any kind?” Kyle asked.
The doctor resignedly shook his head. “I think you should be the one to take medicine.” He walked out of the ward.
Amanda and Lyla chuckled at the comment.
“Doctor, let me see you out.” She followed him out.
Standing there, Kyle embarrassedly scratched his head.
With a smile, Lyla shifted to her side as though to get down for rest.
Seeing that Lyla was having a hard time doing so, Kyle walked over and helped her out. “Let me hold you. Slow down.”
Lyla gazed at him and nodded. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Kyle blushed. He seemed especially shy, like a kid, in front of Lyla.
Lyla felt the strain as she slowly got onto her feet. Moreover, she had no control over her legs.
Kyle’s heart went out to her. “The doctor said to take it slow. Don’t force yourself.”
“I-I’m fine,” Lyla spoke through clenched teeth. “If I can’t stand up now, I won’t be able to stand up forever.” With the aid of Kyle’s strength, she stood up.
Sweat had enshrouded her forehead by the time she got onto her two feet.
Kyle was happy for her. “You’re up, you’re standing up!”
Lyla grinned. Nevertheless, her legs did not seem to belong to her when she attempted to take the first step forward. Try as she might, her legs refused to move or listen.
In the end, she collapsed back onto bed.
Kyle watched on. “You can’t be impatient about it. It’s great enough that you’re able to stand.”
Lyla looked at him and nodded.
“Come, I’ll hold you up. Give it another go,” Kyle uttered.
Giving a nod, Lyla attempted to stand up again...
Amanda happened to come back from sending the doctor off. As the scene unfolded, she did not enter the room and stood by the door to peek inside instead. With a cheeky smile across her lips, she was happy for Kyle’s sake.
......
Meanwhile, on the other side.
In a restaurant.
Mark returned from the toilet, dressed in a dark-colored suit that brought out his elegance and nobility. With his eye on the person sitting over there, he walked over and took a seat opposite her.
“Mr. Pattinson.” The woman in front smiled at the sight of him.
“Ms. Collins, I believe I won’t be able to accept what you’ve mentioned.” Mark flat-out rejected.
Delilah frowned. “Why? This is a great thing for you and our company.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t possibly use you or my own feelings,” Mark replied. Nothing had changed much in the course of two months. Mark was still the same person, except the smile on his face was rarely seen.
Delilah stirred her coffee as she listened to what he had to say. “I heard that you loved a woman who you were about to get married to but she met with an accident, right?”
Mark’s brows furrowed deeply, following her words. The tension in his features forewarned the calm before the storm.
With his face becoming menacing, Delilah uttered, “But she’s not here anymore. Are you planning to be celibate forever?”
“Shut up,” Out of the blue, Mark coldly yelled. His eyes were gloomy. “This has nothing to do with you.” He got up and picked up the phone from the table. “I don’t ever want to see you again.” Mark then turned to leave.
“Mr. Pattinson, you don’t have the guts to face the truth.” Delilah blurted as fearlessly she stood up.
Mark halted his footsteps.
Delilah gazed at him and continued. “Mr. Pattinson, your undying love is a good thing for any woman. I admire this characteristic of yours, but Mr. Pattinson, it’s long in the past now and you have to move on.”
Turning over, Mark stared at her and answered in a hoarse voice, “What do you know?”
“Sure, I don’t but I do know that the woman you love will be sad to see you like this. She would never hope for you to turn out like this.”
Hearing this, Mark frowned. He had to admit that he was a little moved by her words.
“I believe that you would think the same way if it were you.” Delilah drew near and looked him in the eye. “She’s no longer around. This is a fact you must accept.”
“She’s always alive in my heart.” His eyes met hers. “Don’t come giving me a telling off like you know everything. Just give up.” With that, he made a beeline out.
Delilah was not going to back down because of the reprimand. Watching his receding figure, her eyes lit up with admiration.
She did not mind competing with a dead person.
There was no way she would turn her back on a rare good man.
With that in mind, her lips curled into a resolute grin.
Mark Pattinson, you will be my man!
…...
Following days of therapy, Lyla regained control over her legs.
Outside.
Kyle gazed at her. “Practice patience. The doctor already told you to take it slow.”
Lyla smiled. “I’m okay. It’s been a while since I’ve moved about. I want to take a stroll. Don’t worry, I can take it.”
Kyle finally nodded.
In the courtyard.
Lyla took a good look at this Shangri-La of a village. Even taking in a breath was refreshing.
Meadowston was really a beautiful name and lived up to its reputation.
