Lyla smiled.
Just then, Amanda turned to her. “Lyla, can you teach me? I really love designing.”
Lyla nodded. “Sure, but talent comes hand in hand with design. Let me take a look at your sketches first.”
Amanda was filled with glee by her reply. “Alright, no problem. Let me get my book. Wait for me.”
“Okay.”
“Don’t move an inch. I’ll be right back.” Amanda got onto her feet and walked away like she was on cloud nine.
Lyla sat on a chair with a carefree smile plastered across her lips. If she did not have people on her mind, perhaps she would remain here. After all, anyone would fall in love with an environment away from worldly strife.
However...
Bearing that in mind, Lyla sighed.
She wondered how Mark, Hansel, and Gretel were doing.
It did not take long before Amanda came running back, looking out of breath.
“Lyla, I’m back.” She gave Lyla a sketch book. “I drew these myself but they’re just something I whipped up. I don’t know if they are any good.” She handed the book over to Lyla with confidence. “i hope to learn from you.”
Lyla grinned in response. She took the sketch book and began flipping through.
Although Amanda’s designs were not very liberal, the sketch would definitely catch any viewer’s eye. Lyla had rarely seen such a vivid portrayal during her time in M.K.
Lyla browsed through one at a time.
Amanda watched on with her heart in her throat as she carefully studied Lyla’s expressions and awaited her evaluation.
“Did you draw all these?” Lyla gazed at her.
Amanda gave a nod. “Yes. What do you think?”
Lyla let out a smile. “Who knew you have such talent!”
“Really?” It was a real shot in the arm for Amanda, having new-found hope after almost giving up.
“Yes. Your designs aren’t fully developed and can be quite conservative, but they are a breath of fresh air. The rare kind. In other words, you have potential to be the next big thing in design.”
Amanda could leap for joy. “Lyla, are you for real?”
“Why would I say otherwise?” Raising her brow, Lyla replied with a question.
Indeed, Lyla gave the impression that she would not tell lies.
“Ah!” Amanda shrieked in excitement. “At last, I receive recognition!”
Lyla smiled at her. “What? Have you not received recognition before?”
“Yes, they told me that I should just stay put and be a fisherman. They told me to stop dreaming of becoming some designer, but design has always been my dream,” Amanda retorted.
Lyla chuckled at her words. “I support you. People should have their own dreams. Moreover, we shouldn’t ever give up easily. You’re the master of your own fate.”
Those words left Amanda walking on air.
“I’ve decided to persevere in continuing my journey in design!” She made a gesture of encouragement to herself.
Lyla looked at her and laughed. “Have you thought about leaving this place?”
“Of course,” Amanda answered. “My family stopped me though. They told me that the outside world is just too complicated for me to handle, so I’m not allowed out.” Amanda pouted her lips. “I really want to get out for a look.”
Lyla’s heart went out to her.
Everyone had their own ambitions and aspirations. Regardless of whether one would succeed in life or realize their dreams, people should go out into the world and give it a try.
Amanda could be said to be kept out of harm’s way by her family, but in reality, she was like a bird trapped in a cage, unable to fly away.
Her mind suddenly wandered to Hansel and Gretel. Lyla was grateful that she was not this sort of parent as she had been open-minded about their education from the start. With that in mind, she could relax a little.
She turned to Amanda. “Do you want to go out and give it a try?”
“Of course I do.”
“Great. I’ll bring you along with me once I’m all better.”
Amanda widened her bright eyes. “Really?”
Lyla bobbed her head. “Yes, really. I can take you to a jewelry design company. It’s one of the top major organizations and definitely a place to demonstrate your talent.”
Hot with emotions, Amanda was lost for words to describe her feelings.
“Lyla, I really like you,” She remarked.
Lyla grinned. “But you need to improve on your design.”
Amanda suddenly saluted. “Yes, Teacher.”
Her adorable expression teased Lyla to laughter.
Standing by the window, Kyle eavesdropped on the entire conversation between Lyla and Amanda.
She had children and wanted to leave...
Kyle’s face turned into a grimace and his hands started clenching into a ball...
…...
“What’s wrong, Hansel?” Gretel walked into the room and threw a question at Hansel.
Hansel was fixated on the phone, as if in a trance.
“Someone gave me a call today.”
“And?”
“My phone was switched off on the flight but by the time I called back, I was told that it was a wrong number,” Hansel answered with a confused look.
Gretel did not put much thought into the incident. They had been away for two months, on a wild goose chase for Lyla yet found no trace or clues that led to her. Although they refused to admit to it, they unconsciously and slowly came to accept a possibility...
