The day of the wedding came.
No matter how reluctant Mark was, he had to go through with it for Lyla’s sake.
The wedding was held in a remote and clean church. There were hardly any people, and everyone present was friends and relatives of Mark and Delilah.
They still had to make a show of it.
Everyone was waiting for the wedding to begin. Delilah was having her makeup done in the dressing room. Wearing a beautiful white wedding dress, she looked at herself in the mirror. She was exceptionally beautiful, but unfortunately, the person beside her never spared her a glance.
People said that the wedding dress was a representation of love and sanctity, but she was wearing it for an act, for the sake of the woman of the man she liked. Was that not a little ridiculous? Even though she thought so, she still did it.
If people said that she was kind-hearted, or that she deserved it, she would admit it.
Through the mirror, she looked at Mark standing behind her. He was dressed in formal clothes and looked incredibly dashing. He held his phone with his back to her, and even though she could not see his face, she could still feel his nervousness and worry.
She was looking at him, but he was thinking about another woman. Delilah found it a little tragic, but this was her choice...
Just as she was about to say something, the door was pushed open, and Hansel, Gretel, and Lingo came in together.
“Daddy…” Hansel called.
Mark turned around and frowned when he saw Hansel.
“Are you really getting married?” Hansel asked.
“Do you think I have a choice now? As long as it’s for your mommy, I’ll do anything!”
Hansel could not say anything.
“Has that person called?” Lingo asked from the side.
Mark shook his head. “Not yet!”
“Could that person be toying with you?” Lingo was doubtful.
It was a possibility.
At that moment, Mark looked at Delilah with deep and intense eyes.
“Where’s Neil?”
“Outside!”
Mark nodded. At that moment, time was ticking. Every second and every minute was torment for Mark.
The scene was set up. They were just waiting for that person to take the bait.
However, that person seemed to have disappeared. There was no news at all.
It was time for the wedding to start. The people outside had been sitting and waiting, but Mark’s side kept delaying their action. He was waiting and betting, waiting for that person to contact him.
At that moment, the dressing room was silent. Delilah sat over there, not looking anxious at all. This wedding was just a show, so she did not have any expectations.
However, when she looked at how worried Mark was, she still felt slightly unpleasant.
A long time passed since the wedding was supposed to start, and the guests outside were already starting to whisper, but there was still no movement from Mark’s side.
At that moment, the door of the dressing room was pushed open, and Ms. Davis entered.
Seeing her, Mark’s heart was lifted instantly. He looked at her, as if wanting to find some clues on her body.
Likewise, Ms. Davis also looked at Mark. Her slightly hateful eyes flickered, then her sight fell on Delilah and became much softer.
“Ms. Collins, the time for the wedding has already started. Why haven’t you gone out?”
Delilah looked at Mark through the mirror. At that moment, his eyes also happened to look over, and the two pairs of eyes locked. With just a look, she knew what he meant.
She forced a smile. “I’m a little uncomfortable, so we’ll start after I rest a little.”
“You’re uncomfortable? What’s the matter?”
“It’s nothing. Maybe I’m just nervous!” Delilah made a casual excuse.
However, those words would only work if Ms. Davis believed them. She looked at Delilah and then at Mark, and a trace of calculation flashed in those beautiful eyes.
She nodded. “Alright, you rest for now. I’ll go out and appease the guests!”
Delilah nodded, and Ms. Davis nodded and walked out.
Mark’s line of sight kept following her as she walked out.
Delilah said after seeing his gaze. “Ms. Davis has been with me since I was ten. It can’t be her!”
Hearing this, Mark’s lips raised in disdain. “Is that so?”
“I know her well. It’s impossible!”
“Sometimes, what you think you understand is just what you see. If you look at it with your heart, you might find that it’s different.”
Delilah could hear the hidden meaning in Mark’s words. “Are you suspecting her?”
Before finding Lyla, Mark did not want to take any risks, because a casual sentence might cause something irreversible to befall Lyla. He glanced at Delilah and said, “I’m just saying it in general. You’re too good and believe people easily. I don’t just mean her, but also a lot of other people…”
“Does that include you?” Delilah’s question followed quickly.
Mark paused. A strange light flashed in his eyes before he nodded. “Yes…”
Delilah felt uncomfortable and bitter, not knowing what she should say.
At that moment, Mark’s phone rang. After seeing the number, his expression immediately tensed. Delilah saw and also guessed what was going on.
“Hello…” Mark immediately answered the call.
“Mark Pattinson, do you think you can see that woman if you drag it out like this? I’m telling you, the longer you delay, the less you can think about seeing her again!”
“What about what you promised me?”
“When the wedding is over, you’ll see her!”
“Why should I believe you?”
“Because right now, you have no choice!”
“You—!”
“Mark Pattinson, if you still want her to live, then do as I say. Otherwise, you’ll never see her for the rest of your life!” Then, the person hung up directly!
Mark held the phone and called back, but the phone was already turned off!
