One to trim the sails all along, Gretel would admit to any wrongdoing and Lyla simply could do nothing about it.

As expected, Lyla stared at him, finding that words were failing her.

Just then, Hansel immediately voiced, “Mommy, I didn’t call him that!”

“Sure, you didn’t but you’re not in the clear for quietly consenting to it!” Lyla replied.

“Okay!” Hansel’s head hung low.

Lyla kept her eyes on them. She may be hurt but it did not stop her presence from commanding the room.

“You guys...”

“Mommy, don’t get angry. You’re a patient!” Gretel reminded her.

“Quiet!”

Gretel quickly shut her trap.

Lyla’s eyes met theirs. “Who can tell me what is going on? Mark Pattinson... How does he know?”

The pair remained silent.

“Speak up!” Lyla demanded.

Hansel and Gretel merely looked back at her without saying a word.

D*mn it. They were now using her actions against her.

“Hansel, you do the talking!”

Hansel let out a sigh. “Mommy, it’s like this. After you were hurt that day, it was Daddy... Huh no, Mr. Pattinson sent you to the hospital. Gretel and I were worried so we went over and we ran into each other!”

Gretel immediately shot a look at Hansel. Hansel, you sure don’t flinch when lying,

Hansel proceeded. “Mommy, you can ask Gretel if you don’t believe me!”

Lyla turned her gaze towards Gretel.

Gretel nodded on cue. “Yes, that’s right!” She was the true lying little demon.

Though this was the case, things were going on almost too smoothly. Lyla had a weird feeling about it.

“How did you find out I was hurt?”

“Mr. Pattinson called us but I didn’t know it was Mr. Pattinson then. We only knew when we reached the hospital!” Hansel continued to make up a story and it seemed to fall into place.

Lyla felt something fishy was going on yet was unable to put her finger on it.

“Really?”

Hansel solemnly nodded.

It was not that he refused to tell the truth but he did not want Lyla to be worried.

Mommy would probably go crazy if she ever found out what he did.

Hence, it was better for Hansel not to mention it.

Unable to find fault, Lyla chose to believe their version of the tale.

She stared at them. “Come over here!”

The twins exchanged glances before slowly making their way over.

“Tell me, do you really like Daddy?” Lyla locked eyes with them and asked. There was really no point in asking since she already knew the answer.

Hansel and Gretel were slick. “Mommy, we like Daddy but we like you the most!”

“Really?” Lyla exclaimed. Undeniably, she was really happy to hear Gretel’s reply.

Hansel added with a smile. “Yes, Mommy. No one can replace you in our hearts!”

Lyla was filled with content by their taking turns in sharing words.

There was no turning back since Mark was in the know now. However, the outcome was way better than imagined as Mark did not appear to go through the roof, nor did he try to steal Hansel and Gretel away.

With that in mind, she felt comforted.

Lyla could tell that Hansel and Gretel were curious about Mark. The reason she was angry was because she felt a little jealous. Nevertheless, her mind was at ease by their opinion.

“I’ll allow you to like Daddy but it can’t be more than your love for me, get it?” Lyla warned.

Hansel and Gretel were overjoyed. “Mommy, are you saying you’re okay with it?”

“Does it make a difference if I’m not okay with it? Would it stop you?” Lyla unhurriedly commented.

Since Mark had no intentions of taking them away from her, who was Lyla to stop the kids from experiencing the love of a father? This was something every child yearned for the most at this age.

“Mommy, you’re too wise!” Gretel happily jumped onto Lyla. She was beyond ecstatic.

“Ah, ouch...” Lyla cried out in pain.

Recalling that Lyla was still injured, Gretel immediately became worried sick. “Mommy, it wasn’t my intention. Are-are you okay?”

Hansel was besides himself. “I’ll call the doctor!”

“No need for that, it’s okay!” Lyla said, “I’m fine. It hurts a little, but not that bad!”

“Really?”

Lyla nodded. “As long as you little rascals don’t get on my nerve as much!”

Following this remark, Hansel and Gretel let out a relaxed smile at last.

Gretel was on cloud nine at the thought of calling him Daddy out in the open. She did not have to address him as Mister Handsome anymore.

With the family of three seated there and chatting, Lyla uttered, “Is there anymore soup? I’m so hungry!”

“Yes, yes...” Hansel quickly brought it over.

“Let me pour you some water!”
