Mark looked at the text message with a cold smirk across his lips.
“What’s wrong, Daddy?”
“She’s starting to lose her cool,” Mark replied.
“Our chances of saving Mommy would be greater if this keeps up,” Hansel remarked.
Mark was without a word. However, her gaze turned obscure while studying the text message.
...
In the next few days, Mark could be said to have completely gained control of Delilah’s company, yet he pretended that that was not the case.
Meanwhile, men kept watch over the ward with no entry allowed over at the hospital. Doctors could only gain access under Lingo’s supervision.
Ms. Davis had failed in several attempts to sneak in.
Out of avenues, she held a doctor hostage one night.
“What-what are you trying to do?” The doctor fearfully enquired.
“Pipe down. I’m only asking you a question. You’d be fine if you answer honestly,” Ms. Davis said.
“Abo-about what?” The doctor stared at her in fear.
“How is the patient in room 106 doing?” She asked.
“Do you mean, Ms. Collins?”
“Yes.”
“About this...”
“What?”
“Mr. Pattinson has advised us against telling.”
“What if I insist?” Ruthlessness flickered in her narrowed eyes.
The doctor had quite the fright by the look on her face, thus giving in. “I’ll talk, I’ll talk...”
“Speak!” Ms. Davis viciously snapped.
“Ms. Collins is actually not doing too well. She was in critical condition when sent in the other day, but her condition has stabilized in the last few days.”
“Not too well? Why is she not too well? What’s the situation?”
“About this... We don’t have a diagnosis and are still looking into it.”
“Could she be poisoned?”
“Uh, it’s not poison. We’re not sure what’s the situation either.”
“Is her life in danger?”
“Uh... It’s hard to tell.”
“You’re not sure, it’s hard to tell. What’s the use of having you in the hospital?” Ms. Davis was enraged.
“Young lady, doctors are not gods. We are limited in our capacity. Moreover, she’s showing symptoms we have never seen before.”
There was nothing more Ms. Davis could say at this point. “Call me immediately if anything changes with her from here on out. Don’t worry, you will get what’s due.” She took off after hurling a name card at him.
Looking at her receding figure, the doctor quietly let out a sigh of relief.
He took out a phone and dialed a number.
“Mr. Pattinson, I’ve followed your instruction...”
“Good.” Lifting a smirk, Mark terminated the call.
“What’s going on, Daddy?” Hansel enquired.
“She took the bait,” Mark told him.
Hansel stared back at him. “In that case, would she be making a move soon?”
“Unless she doesn’t care about Delilah’s life. Otherwise, I trust that she’d make a call tomorrow.” Mark was sure.
...
Lyla gazed at the person before her. Even though she was feeble in strength, she still cast a smile.
Ms. Davis was already displeased, to begin with. However, the smile on Lyla’s face pissed her off more. “What are you smiling about?” She spoke through clenched teeth.
“The expression on your face tells me that it hasn’t been smooth sailing for you,” Lyla replied while holding out.
Ms. Davis dangerously narrowed her eyes. “So what?”
“I told you before that happiness does not come with a forced relationship. Delilah deserves better. She and Mark are unsuited for each other.”
“Don’t speak with righteousness like you know everything. I’ll have you know that you’d be lucky to come out alive this time.”
Lyla focused on her. “What’s the difference between killing me and what you’re doing to me now?”
“I can only torture you without killing you now because there is still use of you being alive. Otherwise, you’d been dead by now,” Ms. Davis mercilessly answered. The glint alighted in her eyes, relaying her wish to kill Lyla.
“What are you planning to do?”
“You better pray that Ms. Collins is fine or else I’ll bury you with her.”
Lyla frowned, having no idea of what was happening outside. “What’s wrong with Delilah?”
“You don’t have to know about this. The only thing you should know is that you’d not live if anything happens to her.”
Lyla, “...”
She did not ask further questions. However, according to Ms. Davis, Lyla had a feeling that she would soon leave this place.
...
The morning of the next day.
There was a commotion in the hospital as Mark had transferred Delilah out of the hospital.
Mark specifically had the doctor release the news to Ms. Davis.
By doing so, she would slip up due to her weak spot.
The news had not been released for long when there was a ring on Mark’s phone.
“Mark Pattinson, what the hell are you up to?”
“Don’t bother what I’m up to. Don’t forget, you didn’t make good on your promise so why should I listen to you?” Mark retorted with a question.
“You seem to care a lot for that woman.”
“Aren’t you the same?”
